Course change this year with added hills, too bad because every other ride has hills, this ride used to be unique because it was flat. Food lines were too long and it was much better organized in the past.
Reasonably organized event for those who are experienced. I have done the 100km and the 160km. However I found the parts closer to the city to be too dangerous for me (lots of traffic, had to ride on sidewalk). Intersections are not controlled, which deters me from returning. I expect that if I am paying for a ride then the major intersections at least can be controlled for safety.
This is a decently organized event. Unfortunately though, after participating in 2011 and 2012 I have not returned because the second half of the ride (if you are doing the 100 or 160 km routes) seems dangerous to me. The intersections are not at all manned by police or volunteers, you are basically on your own. There are points when you must turn left through very large intersections - and again, there are no volunteers or anything here, just signs telling you where to go. Also, the first year I did it (I did the 160km), myself and two other riders somehow missed a turn and ended up doing 170 km+. Overall it is a decent event but I would recommend sticking to the shorter courses which are better controlled.
Great ride. Organized, always lots of refreshment at rest stops. Signage is clear, never lost once. Amazing turnout. Thanks to all the volunteers/police/paramedics for standing out in the scorching heat to support the riders. Job well done & for a too-good-to-be-true registration cost. Love it.
This is a great event that is well organized & very well put together.
It is not a race so the pace is at your own discretion which makes it very enjoyable for a group to participate in.
In the past 2 years we have done the 60k & 100k routes which are very well marked & no need to refer to hard copy maps.
