Overall a great experience for runners and airliner enthusiasts. I will definately return to this event in 2016. The organizers, security personnel and volunteers did a fantastic job. They were very polite and patient. Food and drink provided were healthy nutrition after the run/walk. Three small recommendations: Bring in more portable washrooms, place a series of loud speakers around marshalling area prior to announcing the safety instructions and park aircraft on display off the runway, on tarmac closer to a nearby hangar. This would allow more registered participants to view (walk around) and or board the airliners on display following the closure of the runway once all participants have completed the run/walk. Thanks again for organizing this fun and interesting event!

Great run, fun, well organized. And something very different from the usual. Having aircraft take off and land beside you (well, 75 yards away) is very different

I enjoyed myself.
Lot of fun. Beautiful weather.
I will sign up next year again.

Fantastic venue and so cool to run right on the Tarmac. Well organized and will be back next year. Oh and the firefighters RAN the 5k in their full gear, nicely done! Hopefully I can improve my pace and keep up with them next year LOL.

Improvement suggestion: A bit weird that the open planes to explore are past the start line - didn't want to stop mid-race to explore them because it would kill my time. Not a deal breaker for me though because I now know I can explore them post-race. Still 5 bananas!

Had a fabulous time at the Runway Run today! Great weather, cool course and planes taking off right next to you - what more could you ask for?!

Race was flat, fast and the runway wide. Lots of parking. One downside: 2000+ people and 20 porta potties. that is not a good ratio,

This is a fun 5k for anyone and everyone.
Such a cool experience being on the tarmac so close to the planes taking off and landing. You pretty much run half the distance down the tarmac and then run back, but the view is unlike any other which helps keep it interesting.

The medal is really cute and the post-race treats are great. A nice bonus is the planes they had out that you could take pictures by post-race.

Definitely going to be there again next year!

This was my first 5km run so I have nothing to compare it to but man did I have fun!! What could be better then running while a jet lands on the runway beside you?? Or laying on the marks on the runway for photos when you're done?

I want to run this again next year! My only concern is that there is no shade to be found so on a hot day you better be well hydrated!!

I absolutely loved this race. It was so much fun. There was plenty of everything, including entertainment for the kids. The race was very well organized, from kit pick up to medal pick up and the food was great too. I can't wait to do this race again.

I have done this run for the past 4 years. It's fun to be part of a race that closes a runway down, just so you can run on it.

It is fairly well organized, the post race food is usually good, the medal is alright.

My only complaint for this race is that it's in mid June and the sun can be strong, even at 9:00am. Since it's on a runway, constant exposure to the sun can be exhausting.

It's a flat, fast and family friendly race.

Have run this race several times and each time is as exciting as the first. A few restrictions in place, obviously due to security, but still lots of fun. Ample water and ice cream/popcycles at finish line, followed by a fair selection of post-race refreshments and food. The finisher medals are cool and fun to collect. Highly recommend this race as even after a few years, the novelty hasn't worn off for this runner!

My first runway run. In terms of uniqueness, easily #1. Have a lifelong interest in airports anyway, and, I'm a Toronto native. The following's not a race/event 'criticism': I wanted to be closer to the planes taking off and landing! My single real criticism is that there wasn't enough hype and noise for the runners (beyond of course the planes). I would have loved to have experienced a band or some music. Overall, very happy with such a neat run.

Love Love Love this race! Flat and fast. New PB this year by over a minute.
How cool is running on a runway?! Whether you run or walk, this is one to try at least once.

This was such a fun race! It was so cool to tell my friends and family that I got to run the Pearson runway. They gave out great swag (tons of food, m&ms, gaterade, Popsicles, ice cream, fruit bagels etc) the finisher medal is so cute and I beat my personal best time! The only way this race could be better is if they had bag check, but besides that fantastic race! :)

Hi. I was looking at signing up for the 2013 runway run but I'm unable to find a link to register. Even on gtaa website it directs me to 2012 run Is this an invite only run or can somebody provide me with the registration link. Thanks a lot

Its a fantastic race great location lots of hard work put into it.
I was skeptical and now I am hooked into doing this one yearly....
Come one come all....its great

I ran this in June 2011 (my then PB) and missed 2012, which I regret.

It's a fun, fast race naturally on a flat surface. Leave your bags and extra clothes in the car (no bag check), as nothing is allowed on the field except what you are wearing for the run (fuel belts, etc are fine).

The parallel runway is active and you can pace yourself against an arriving/departing Airbus.

A nice finishing medal is a super cool bonus.
I plan to run this race every year.

Unique race location and not somewhere most people run the rest of the year. The course is flat and straight, although in between plane takeoffs there really isn't much to see - just sky for miles and miles. Perfect for a 5k, but it might get boring if there were a longer distance option.

Organization and amenities were great. Two water stations for a 5k, TONS of food (bagels, breakfast bars, candy candy candy, juice), and a fundraiser draw for trips and other prizes. My only concern was that there was no baggage check, since I needed to pick up my kit on race day and don't have a car to leave it in. Fortunately I was able to leave my bag (at my own risk) in a corner of the event space - otherwise I would've been running with it.

Fun race and certainly not something you get to do every day! Also suprisingly easy to get to by transit from downtown (just don't take the bus that goes straight to the airport terminal or you will have to walk/run/cab 5k to get to the race site).

So exciting to run beside planes landing and taking off! Super easy flat course.

This is a cool idea, I wish it were a longer distance, if yu want a different experience try this one but sign up early it sells out quickly.

I ran this race in 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed myself, even if it was my 5km PW (personal worst)!

The participant numbers are kept low to manage everyone's safety on the runway, so don't hesitate and sign up for this year's edition! I'll be there (if not yet on my summer vacation).

It's not often one gets an opportunity to race on a runway, with planes taking off and landing on the runway parallel to you. And of course, you couldn't ask for a flatter race!

The event is really well organized, the volunteers are passionate, and there's a great fundraising element too. There are draws for free trips, etc., and the prizes for age groups are very good.

A unique experience, not to be missed!
