Great swag but a congested course and runners kept tripping and bumping each other. Aid stations were disorganized and out of supplies. The finish corral was sort of dangerous since it was a dead stop in the heat with no water or bananas and no where to stretch or walk a bit after the run. Blocked in with all the other runners. And no way to escape. Very scary.
Not many spectators.
Maybe great for a first half marathon but not sure it lives up to its hype. Definitely not the best race but good swag and beautiful course.
This event isn't just the race, it's the entire week-end. Three different opportunities for yoga, concert, package pick up party and of course the half marathon.
I loved this race. The course was gorgeous. Enjoyed the entertainment, the pacers. I didn't have any issues with the water stations.
Upon finishing, received a very unique medal, a hat, a runner's kit from saje and fancy runner's breakfast. The race seems a bit expensive, but considering everything you get it's well worth it.
Yes the race was fun in 2012 but they did say there would be a lot of entertainment along the route and there wasn't. They even told us to leave our headphones at home as there would be so much entertainment. BIG MISTAKE. Also they ran out of food. So much for a great buffet at the finish line. I was slow but my sister was sub two hours and she got one banana and that was it. I see they have improved the shorts for 2013. Thank you for that. Having said all this, I have now moved from Vancouver to Ottawa but am still going back to Vancouver to run it in 2013.
This was a wonderful event to attend for all registered runners which included the race and technical shorts plus POST race buffet, FUN. concert, yoga on the beach along with some great swag bag items and exclusive SeaWheeze merchandise store.
Minor issues with the run itself included running out of cups at the half point water stations, and a course that ran just a bit over length. The coral starts were self assigned based on time, and the later ones were released a half hour or later than the gun time.
Other than that the race itself was perfect, water stations every 5k with Whistler bottled water, Vega Sports drink, and sliced Bananas and Oranges (personally yuk as they are sticky!) Bottled water AND coconut water at the end of the race with a unique finisher medal bag clip on shoelaces.
Registration for the 2013 opened in early January and was half full within hours, as of February 7th it is 80% full.
I highly recommend this as a great event.
