A great, simple race! Good option as a first try at a 10km.
The course was went through the river valley and was well planned out. But, since it was advertised as a trail running race, I was expecting more rigorous trails. Overall the race route was quite easy and most of the trails were walking paths with gentle slopes. Albeit I only ran the 10km course and the 1/2 marathon does venture up a ravine so there may be tougher trails in the longer run.
The volunteers were superb! And the setup of start/finish line was well done. Parking was a little difficult to find. I'd recommend parking at Hawrelak Park because you are guaranteed a spot and it is only a short walk from there to Emily Murphy Park.
The medal handed out at the end was really nice and the food given out was tasty. I was supposed to receive a t-shirt too but because I registered late they ran out. They said I would receive one in the mail, but I never did. It's not the biggest deal and I didn't really look into it but I would suggest registering early so you don't run into the same problem I did.
All in all a well done race. I plan on coming back next year!
This was my first run since moving to Edmonton and I have to say, it was a wonderful welcome to the cities running circuit.
The area for the run was absolutely breathtaking, crossing over the Saskatchewan river and running through Emily Murphy and William Hawrelak park. There was a large portion of the race that was covered with tree canopy keeping the sweat off of me.
The course markers and volunteers were a great help, keeping us going the right way and cheering us on every step of the way. Water stations were brilliantly placed every 2.5km.
The medal looks really cool, having the race results posted every 20 minutes or so goes above and beyond the call of duty and the food was fantastic.
Kudos to the Moose is loose. I will be back next year for another fun filled day.
