I blog often and I really appreciate your content. This great article has really peaked my interest.
I will take a note of your site and keep checking for new details about once
per week. I opted in for your RSS feed as well.

I ran this the first year they did it, 2011 and would not do it again.

Entire course on the boardwalk which is terrible to run on given the general un-evenness of the Beaches Boardwalk. Add to that there was no mention of this in the registration, and I was annoyed.

Most runners register for a 5k expecting it to be run on a normal running surface. A sand run or a trail run or a mud run are almost always advertised as such.

That year the race was terribly unorganized. The start location and route were not listed on the website, in the race kit or even signed well. There was a decent number of other runners and the water station was well served.

The first year, the 10k was actually 9.3k. Not good. Not sure if that has been fixed.

Nice cause, Commonwealth Games Foundation
Nice shirt, Finisher Medal and Shoe bag

Poor organization & communication

Hopefully they have tightened things up in the ensuing years.

I quite enjoyed this race

It's my second year running it and I find it to
be a nice bridge between the downhill Yonge
Street race and the Goodlife Marathon that
follows it.

The boardwalk is super cushiony on the joints
and the cheering children at the water stations
will at least make you smile to the end.... Which
Comes Quickly...

Highly recommended for those that dislike
Crouds but love Comradery !

I thought it was a good run (agree with everyone about the really gross bugs but not the planners fault). It was nice that it was flat but the board walk did bother me and when getting water I almost ran into a guy going the other way because it wasnt situated properly.
The second half of my 10k was enjoyable.

The race was not really that organized. It was a great concept of running along the beach but like others have mentioned the board walk was uneven making it hard at times to not trip AND it was not a closed course so we had to run against dogs/people/cars. The water stations were not really that well thought out - the 5K and 10K shared water stations which is fine but when one group was doing a loop and the other approaching the loop we had to fight for water, which left many not receiving any. If you did the 10K at 5K-ish there was another water station and when you did another loop around you headed back to the same water station which caused the water station to run out of water! Most the cheering groups were great (high school students), but one group was texting and not even looking at the runners - why volunteer if you don't want to do it? I mean without volunteers we'd be SOL, I just didn't understand why these three did it when clearly they didn't want too.

Also, if you had to use the flush before the race the port-a-potties were really backed up! I am unsure if all of us made it so we could start the race on time.

The good parts - great weather, awesome food/drinks afterward, photography company took many photos for you to choose from, massage station, lots of people smiling post race.

A simple track for novice/beginners of 5K. Unfortunately at that time in the morning, loads of swarms of flies along the boardwalk - bring a face/mouth shield and sunglasses! Disappointed with the timing of the race - no chip times - so the timer starts at the same time for everyone instead of when you cross the start/finish line. Also the track wasn't really closed off, so there was pedestrian traffic and morning dog walkers that you would have to dodge. Overall, there are many races far better organized for a better running experience.

Great course. I love this one and the Tannenbaum 10K which is the same area. Flat so that you can get a true calibration of your time for predicting realistic targets for Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.
Toronto 10K and Sporting Life 10K give you the thrill of going downhill but can't be used as an accurate find targets in Marathon and 1/2 marathon.
Sunny day brought out the bugs though.

It was a beautiful day for a run! It was not at all crowded which was nice, but I did not like running on the boardwalk. Didn't feel secure running on uneven woman actually tripped & fell. Not so bad once you got on the path & sidewalk though. The bugs, however, were ridiculous!! Obviously event organizers have NO control over this, but I spent most of the race swatting them away & digging them out of my eyes, nose & mouth! I had a good race & took 5 min off my p.b., but because of the boardwalk/bug situation, I wouldn't do this race again.

It was a great morning for a great run. Obviously you couldn't do anything about the ridiculous walls of flies that we battled.
This was my first run, so I can't compare, but it was a wonderful experience.
