This is a very unique race. The 6K distance is quite unconventional. The timing method is old-fashioned non-chiptiming. Your finishing time and place are recorded by race staff. Unlike other races, only top 3 overall and top 3 in each age group get medals. The race is small (only ~250 runners) but highly competitive. with the friendly atmosphere that is non-existent in bigger races. Course was flat, fast, scenic, and very accurately measured. Post-race food selection was wide, including beef burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, cookies, candies, pops, and beers. The quality of food was rather poor though, but what else can you ask from a $25 race. Overall a nice little gem on the islands!

"Toronto's best kept secret" seems to be out as this race now sells out and for good reason. One of the coolest little races around. Great flat and fast course on Toronto Island. Competitive race with lots of young talent. Amazing post-race food (beer, burgers, home-baked goods) and awards (now a Timex event). Overall, one of the best races I've done!

Second time running this race. Really enjoyed it. Seems to have god competition spread across the age groups. Going over to the island on a summer evening is like going to another world, and the ride back on the ferry is beautiful!! I liked the change to hamburgers this year, and the homemade chocolate chip cookies were delicious. The beer was cold, the people were friendly - all good!

Beautiful place for a run. It felt like everyone was on the same team throughout the entire race. You'll never get bored during the run as you will always have some unique scenery to look at.

This race was a real privilege to run!! Great people, beautiful venue, fun food. Just being on the island especially the community part is a rare opportunity. Well organized.
I almost don't want to report well on this race as I want to keep it a secret!

A great event; the course is flat, fast, and very pretty, and you can't beat beer, barbecue and homemade cookies on the Island for a perfect post-race. Highly recommended.

First time running this race. Really enjoyed it - I like a flat course! Well organized, with a simple yet good website, and helpful follow-up emails. Good competition. Cold beer. I pass on hotdogs, but the choc-chip cookies were good.

This is everything a low key, high quality race should be: great course and great people.
It really doesn't get much better!
This is the fourth time in six years I have done the race.
The field is restricted to just 200 people and the the event is correctly billed as "Toronto's best kept secret." It features handwritten race bibs and a beer, hot dog and hime made cookies meal afterwards.
The first year, I kind of got sucked in by the friendly atmosphere and pre-race jokes about "get this over with so we can get to the beer. " I looked around and lots of folks in their 40's, 50's and 60's -- so I figured it was just a summer Bar-B-Que/fun run type of deal.
Wrong! It's a race. With some fast people. There were many members of two local running clubs (Longboat and The Runners Shop) plus some young teenage studs.
And they can run.
Great atmosphere, great competition, great volunteers, and a great summer night out: almost like a mini-vacation right in the city.
Amazingly, they also raised $5,000 for charity on an entry fee of just $25 (including the Bar-B-Que,)
Very highly recommended.

Great little run, I finally did this last year (2011), and arrived in style...in a canoe! Yes...one of the few races in Toronto that you can arrive by boat, bike (on the ferry naturally), or swim over if you feel so inclined! Small, boutique run that is out and back on the main Toronto Island road at a time (thursday nite) when few(er) tourists are in the way.
Nice post-race gathering in the private setting behind the Island Cafe, anytime beer is served on a warm summer nite how can you go wrong?

Awesome race with awesome ambiance. Very nice view of the Toronto skyline if you think about looking at it during the effort, unlike me. Anyway very good way to relax after work and to have a break in the week.

This is my 8th time running this low key, 6km run, beer and hot dogs after, what else can you say? Lots of regulars each year so it's like a reunion of friends.
