My family and I have been attending this event over the last 10 years and look forward to the 11th Annual this year too. The atmosphere is very familial and wellness oriented and with it being in Canada's Wonderland now, the children really enjoy it too!
The race this year was poorly organized. The race route was changed without notification prior to the race. There were two loops done within Wonderland and there were no marshalls found within the Wonderland to guide people of direction. I was only fortunate that I was running with another race, otherwise, I would have been lost. Also, the distance was not a full 10k. According to my Garmin, it was 0.13 km short.
I have run this race a few times, but last year I placed in the top 3 for my age group.in the middle of handing out prizes there was a major mix up with the race times.they then stopped calling out the winners and giving out prizes.i emailed chip time company and verified the organizers of this race screwed up.i got a hold of them and they told me someone would get back to me but it never happend.
Volunteers at this race are always great.Every km should be marked to make it easier. It should be an over 65 category, there is a big gap between 60 and 70.I'll be there next year.
Worst run I have ever participated in. The website was never updated with the final results. I received my time through another website. The time reported indicated I was in the top three for my age category. I contacted the race organizers with regards to my prize and was told they were to be mailed the very next day. Till this day ( April 10, 2014), I have not yet received my package. I have emailed the race organizers and have never heard back.
THIS IS ONE RACE I WILL NEVER PARTICIPATE IN AGAIN!!!!
I enjoyed this run last year and there were many helpful volunteers. I would suggest in future to have km markers each km along the 10 km course and if we could run more within the park it would have been more entertaining.
A very well organized event with a great bunch of volunteers. It would have been nice to have the medal presented at the finish line and for at least 10K, kilometer signs along the route would have been helpful. And thanks for a free Wonderland ticket.
A great community event supporting a wonderful cause. Thanks to the organizers for their commitment and generosity to help facilitate the development of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Keep up the great work. See you on the 29th.
I always enjoy this race because the community unites in a friendly, positive atmosphere for such a good, essential cause. The course used to be rather boring so I really appreciated the change to Canada's Wonderland! One thing that could be improved is the age categories as they are too vast.
I am glad the date has been changed to September so that the race doesn't interfere with the bigger, popular races in Toronto in June.
May the organizers keep up the great work!
This was my first race ever so I did not know what to expect. I have to agree it was a bit unorganized from the start. I had picked up my bib and shirt the day prior so all I needed was my chip. There were no signs as to where to go so I needed to ask. They did find my number quickly. There was a shortage of pins as well so i had to wait for the pins as they tried to find some more. I found everyone to be rather friendly at all the stations and they were very encouraging. I found the age from 19-39 was a big difference and should have been better divided but I managed to place well over all even in my mid 30's. Yes, there was banana's along with the oranges. My friend and I got the last banana so we had to share as they said they ran out. Honestly we were surprised that they were giving out things in the end. Overall I thought it was a good race and enjoyed running running through wonderland.
Water stations, tech t-shirt, chip timed, venue at Canada's Wonderland, free pasta dinner, free parking at venue, supports Vaughan's new hospital, some distances were marked, friendly organizers and volunteers,
Weather was very good that morning, close to home
-bib, shirt, pins all picked up separately!! Come on!
-I didnt even know about the timing chip until 20 min before the race, but I noticed mainly without the chip - I found out by chance when somebody noticed I didn't have one and directed me to the tent
-a towel was promised for the pasta dinner...didn't get it
-very little service at the pasta dinner... Basically, nan bread, chick pea dish, and pasta...self-serve!
- the venue for the pasta was way too large, only a handful of people were there and no signage on the street leading up to the place... I had to check online (from my BB) to make sure I was at the right place!
-no food or not enough food at the finish line (rumor was there was bananas but I didn't see any)
-don't like the age categories for 5k... i.e., 10 and under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-39!!!! As a 39 year old, I didn't appreciate being lumped in with 19 year olds, come on!!! However, the 10k categories were much better.
-the prizes seemed lacking, but it was a small race... i.e., the medals were tiny
Lots of negatives but I still enjoyed the run mainly because of the weather, venue, free parking, and tech shirt.
The race is for a worthwhile cause so I'll bear the inconveniences, but I do hope they step it up because this could be Ann excellent race with better organization. 2 stars.
I was one of the many runners who were never directed at where to find a race chip, I haven't done too many races but figured it was behind the race bib which is becoming standard now. It seemed like alot of people were around to help but the men were standing and arguing while the women behind the tables had no clue what they were doing (same on course, all men at water tables and marshalling and the women giving out race kits at the end, which was a nice, different touch btw).
And it was all men saying speeches before the run and afterwards (very, very sexist btw). And who needs to hear from all these people anyway? Is this a political event or a run?? I did not pay much attention to the event overall thinking since it was advertised on MyNextRace.com, used Running Room for registration and hosted at Wonderland with such fanfare, that it would be well organized and executed. Lots to be desired here, and in the speeches beforehand I heard that the goal would be 10,000 runners and a million dollars raised for the hospital. This run can't even handle 1000 people let alone 10,000!
I agree with the last reviewer (Rebecca). Myself and alot of other people never got a race chip, you can see lots of unknown runners in the results page. Pins...well, that's pretty basic, plus a well organized registration scene (it was chaotic to say the least). My friend ran this before and said it wasn't exactly perfect but I figured with the venue at Wonderland and Running Room now involved it would have been a first class event.
There was only one clock at the finish line, but three races finished in the same place! It was great to run on the grounds of the park and the many volunteers seemed enthusiastic, maybe just some more professional organizers who have done these events before would help, as the many positives like water stations, free parking and a tech shirt.
Most unorganized event I've ever been to. Day of the race, I asked where I could pick up my chip since I picked up my race kit prior to race day. The person at the registration area had to ask someone else, which I think is pretty ridiculous seeing as people working the event should know something like where to pick up the chip would be. Then trying to get pins was another adventure, perhaps it would have been easy to hand them out with the race kit pick up. Either that or have personnel working trained. We were told that we were to pick up our pins and chip on race day, there should have been signage directing people to that area/marked clearly. Race etiquette was not present which was aggravating. I was very disappointed with this race - I heard excellent things about it and did not live up to the expectation I had.
I always have fun. People are always friendly, and great support from the community...i recommend this race.
Improved by leaps and bounds the last two years. Last year's 10km was chip timed, accurate, well supported (water stations every 1km) and well organized. Too bad the course is changing... but looking forward to the new route in Canada's Wonderland.
AMAZING EVENT. Hoping to get contacted again.
I will never run this race again. There was no support along the course. There was no regard to etiquette which made it VERY dangerous. Just awful!
I did the very first run here, came 2nd overall in the 10km. Despite the rain it was a fun event with plenty of food after, not too many "real" runners in the first event but it seems like more are showing up.
