2016 race was an awesome day. Trail was well marked and marshalled. Even with the recent rain there was very little course degradation making it an excellent course. This was my 3rd Toad and first since 2012!
As usual, the organization was good and everything ran on time.
Perhaps my only disappointment was the Run for the Toad sports bag...I really looked forward to my new bag only to find no "Run for the Toad" embroidery on it. Only a plastic bag tag.
I hope it's better next year.
I have now done this race four years in a row. This year was the first time for me to do the full 50km ultra trail race. This event is extremely well organized. This year they included more options and had high-school relay teams there. Amazing to see the young ones starting out. Best race finish food that just can't be beat anywhere. I said I wouldn't do it again (pre-race) as each I've done one more lap of the course. But MG friends and I are already thinking about next year.
Great race! Wonderfully organized! Beautiful course!
Loved the pipe band from Royal Highland Fusilieres.
Atmosphere and provisions were terrific for runners & spectators alike. The kid's 1km race as a kickoff was a great reminder that running is for fun! Thanks to all the volunteers with their big smiles, it truly made a difference. Well done!!!
We did the 50K relay race and it was amazing! This was my first time doing the Run for the Toad. The directors do an amazing job paying attention to all the little details, right down to providing tampons in the women's bathroom.
In addition to the attention to details, other awesome perks of doing this race include a great meal (quinoa salad anyone?), great swag (Nike bag with tag), and great atmosphere (friendly volunteers). I would definitely look at challenging myself more in the future and do the 25k! :)
Thanks to George and Peggy for a great race!
This was my first time at the Toad and was also my first 50k ultra. This event has great organization, a warm atmosphere, friendly and energetic spectators and beautiful scenic trail full of fall colours. But the hills can be challenging and I'd recommend trying the 25k first before committing to the full 50k.
I really appreciated the coffee and timbits and the gym bag gift for runners. The lunch was ok but (for me) not as impressive as some people have raved about -- by the time that we 50k'ers staggered in mid-afternoon, the food was a bit soggy and overcooked.
The organizers are great and even go the extra mile by also arranging a practice run for runners a couple of months beforehand.
Overall, an awesome event!
This was my first 50K race. The food during the race and after was fantastic. The piping hot and fresh Tim Horton's coffee after the race made me a happy camper! On my last lap, I was surprised to see George (race organizer) cheering me on. Even though there were over a thousand participants, the race seemed to maintain the friendly atmosphere of a much smaller race.
Great from start to finish - can't find results for 25k yet though. Comfortable hills and felt great at the end so I was curious about my split.
This is an absolutely fantastic and well organized event!! Peggy & George and the entire team of volunteers did such an excellent job!!
It was my first time running this event (25K run). It is a challenging course (12.5K loop that I had to do 2x) but such an accomplishment to finish. Skeleton hill is toughest hill - short but steep, at around 11.5K mark! Quality medal at the end - I loved it - so cute!
Kit pickup was great, including the Nike bag given to all participants. I was surprised at how good the trail conditions were on Sat given all the rain that fell on Fri. Pre race food (Tim Horton's coffee, donuts, cookies) and post race lunch were great. Volunteers along route and at aid stations were awesome.
My nephews did the Toad Pals (kids race) and also enjoyed and received a nice medal & bag.
I would highly recommend this event!
A+ from start to finish and only gets better each year. George and Peggy put so much into this race and it shows. Course is quite challenging but it is all groomed specially for the race so it is quite safe. Lots of room to run, even in the trails. Free unlimited Tim Hortons coffee and donuts starting from before the race until the day is over. Showers at the race site. Fantastic food after (especially the pie!!). Heated tents to sit in before/after. Not sure what else to list, but no detail has been missed at this race. Highly recommended, just start slow on the first lap to have a great time!
My first trial run and first running race (I am a mud runner and obstacle racer usually) and I absolutely loved it! It's well organized, social, competitive, and a great day out. The course was challenging but fun, well planned and the runners are well looked after. I will definately do this again next year!
I have not done the actual race but this year I did the training run they put on for the first time and I can not say enough good things about it. The training run is only $17 and they had aid stations, volunteers, a photographer, and food afterwards. The course was tough, extremely hilly (especially the last hill) but it was so great. I really enjoyed this. Well organized and a great atmosphere. I can not run this race this year but I definitely plan to go spectate. It will be a yearly event for me in the future.
Awesome race. The course was very challenging with all the hills. I did the 25k race for the first time. It felt like such an accomplishment just to finish. The food after the race was great and everything ran smoothly. My family had a great time too as spectators and it was great that there was a kids tent and reptile show to occupy my kids during the nearly 4 hours that I was running.
Wonderful race with superb organization. Pre-race information emails are informative. Registration and expos were great especially for an ultramarathon. Tough course but this was to be expected. Would have been nice to have different colored bibs to assist the spectators know in which race people are participating in. Race course map should be posted for spectators. I am not sure it was necessary for runners to go out and stand for 45 minutes before the race to see the opening ceremonies, especially if the person is running 50K.
My 4th year doing this most awesome race. As a race director for another Top Rated race, I come away from the Toad each year with lessons learned to make my races better. The volunteers are hands down the best anywhere.
Peggy and George do it right!
PS, my rating remains 5 bananas but ONE thing I would love to see is the addition of somewhere to keep our bags during the race (not fuel bags, but change of clothes etc) to alleviate the long walks to the parking lots to get change of clothes etc.

It was my first time completing this race and I must say it was a test of will power and strength. There are more hills than you can count, but it feels so amazing to finish! Getting that medal is a proud moment for every runner I'm sure.
The race kit included a New Balance duffle bag, which I am going to use for every race I do going forward.
The post-race meal is delicious, the best I've had after a race to date. Everything was very organized!
Loved this race, it was hard but fun. Everyone along the course was so supportive and encouraging.
Aid stations along the way were great, and the after party was amazing.
Big congrats to the organizers and volunteers. I'll be back next year!
Amazing race ,very organized,amazing volunteers.
One race you have to do.
George and Peggy are amazing.
Extremely well set up, organized and supported. Tent city, the meal, the course....all were what you want them to be. A hearty thanks to all the organizers!
This was an AMAZING race! I was very much a newbie to running as a whole, but still decided to take this on. It is 25k of hills, hills and more hills!! The course was very well groomed, so little worry about with footwork. It is a two loop track, which makes the first loop fun and exciting to explore and the second loop scary that you have to do it all over again! (including skeleton hill!!) The people were amazing, food was phenomenal, medal was beautiful and finishing the race feels SOOO good!!
My only suggestion, would be to keep the drums going at skeleton hill until all runners have gone by twice (at least for the 25k'ers). As a last runner crossing the line, felt like everything had already wrapped up and I missed everything. (but the food!) But still THE best run I've ever gone to, thanks Peggy & George!
What I loved most, (besides great food after race), was the sound of the beating drums through the forest, as you approach the hill of death. My first time for this race was 2012, and it won't be my last!
This was my first year doing the Run for the Toad. I have a love/hate relationship with the course. It is absolutely beautiful but very challenging. I loved "skeleton hill" and the support along the course. Doing two loops is mentally tough - all the hills seem so much worse the second time around! I heard there are treats along the course (candy, pretzels, etc) but somehow I totally missed them!
This was definitely one of the best organized races I have ever been a part of. The food was absolutely amazing and the medal was my nicest to date! I will definitely be doing this race again next year!
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Awesome race, my first trail race & first race of more than a half. Pleased with my modest result of 2:36 though I think I can do better next year knowing the course now. Still proud. Great meal, great freebies, great atmosphere & people. What an event, much more than I'm used to. I feel like a "real" runner now. Nice to finally meet Peter Donato and big thanks to that guy who gave me a banana slice in the trailer park on my 2nd lap, I think it got me through! :)
First time Toader....LOVED this race...I cannot think of one thing i would change. Friendly people, great food, entertainment and a awesome course...Running up the GIANT hill coming into the end and seeing Peter and Jefferson made my day!! Awesome job Peggy and George...Kudos to all the volunteers!!!!
Loved this race. It was my first Run for the Toad and it definitely will not be my last!! Tent City was great, and the post race food was amazing. My favourite race so far.
To Peggy and George at Run for the Toad....A huge thank you for transforming this Tadpole into a Toad
had a wonderful time great food great people a must race to come to.washrooms were the best .food is amazing.
Run for the Toad is one of my favorite races! It's one of the highlights of the fall racing season. It's a great race for first-time trail runners or seasoned runners. The race directors, Peggy and George, are true professionals as well as the park staff at Pinehurst Conservation Area that host the event. The race is well organized and a fun weekend event for runners and families. With your entry fee, you also receive a Saucony gear bag. Race festivities include the expo, catered post-run meal, many giveaways. Hopefully, I'll see you on the trails, September 29!
Best race of the year. I've done it 9 years in a row and will be there again this year for my 10th. 25K or 50K it doesn't matter you'll have a good time. Tent City amazes every year. I've skipped family weddings that fall on the same day as the Toad it's that good. Peggy and George are the best.
so excited....signed up to the first time this year...i m currently a tadpole in training and cannot wait till i am a full toad....doing the 25k and am truly already pumped to do it again in 2013...
Run with Pride
I have done this race four times and love it. The course is not overly technical but is challenging. There is a great sit down meal at the end which is lots of fun. Peggy and George are lovely people who have this race very well organized. I am signed up for my fifth year!! This is a great one to try!!
I ran this race in 2011, and asked myself what took me so long to experience this race? Do this race! I DNF'd due to a hamstring injury, but that didn't dampen the experience at all. What a beautiful, non-technical trail, and just a terrific race atmosphere. It's great to do something other than road races and see just how much fun the trail runners have, and how friendly they are.
For anyone who is looking to do their first ultra this is the race. The course is not technical . The race directors are fabulous and the atmosphere is a whole lot of fun. Tons of food from start to end and the swag is top. Oth. Overall great event! Sign up early because it sells out quickly
George and Peggy do a fantastic job year after year organizing Run for the Toad!! It is a fantastic feeling coming to the beautiful Pinehurst Lake area not having to worry about the little things; they will make you feel amazing and you will want to come back and run this race every year!!
As a 2-time winner of the first editions of this race, I can say (easily) that it's the best race all-around, anywhere....anytime...George and Peggy outdo themselves each year, even if you have never raced on trails before work up to the distance and check the Toad Run off your list!
