Ran this race for the third time in 2013. It's on my race calender every year for the supportive crowds, central/downtown (yet challenging) course, great cause, great value and tremendous post-race refreshments and celebrations. I am concerned about the course certification as I was told it may be short (and running the second loop through the crowds of slower runners is problematic and could be better marshaled). Still, an overall fantastic event.
This race has a lot of great qualities including a beautiful run course right downtown that is flat and fast! It is also one of the only races with a start time of 10am (everything else being well before that). The food, especially the pastries after the race are always delicious!
The course needs to be equipped to handle the faster runners so they don't have to weave between the walkers and people still on their first lap. The awards have odd age groups and are not consistent to how the rest of the road races award the winners.
This race has so many great redeeming qualities and yet a couple of the negatives are so standard at an other race.
Always enjoy this race. It is usually a bit hot for me-a 10am start at the end of June will do that!-but, it's well organized and a lot of fun.
Best after run snacks (Dufflets pastries, yogurts, little pizzas and rice balls in 2013). Not a stale bagel in sight.
Course itself can be a little jammed at times depending on your position or goals for the day but well organized, great volunteers, AMAZING energy and after party. Nice to have a race in the core on a Saturday that starts at a humane hour (10) :) Will be back again!
well done overall - good course, great crowds, post-run food is some of the best I've had (sweets from the Dufflet bakery, grilled veggies on flatbread, risotto rolls, real oj!). my only complaint is the crowding in the start corral - not an issue of the organizers, they even had signs to delineate where to start for the sub-20min group, the 20-25 and the over 25min and multiple announcements for slower runners, walkers and strollers to start at the back -just people not listening in their adrenaline-powered, pre-race excitement. Not a big enough beef to put me off next year though, I will be back for #3 in 2014. I do agree though that the start time is a little late given it can be very hot at this time of year.
(but maybe a better coloured t-shirt next year please? few people can successfully pull off hazard orange or goldenrod)
This was my very first 5k race as a new runner in 2008 and I've run it every year as part of a team. It is one of the best race around for the money. Very well organized, post run food is so good, the free massages are also a great touch. Very easy route, the crowds are wonderful. Only drawback is that it starts at 10 am and given that it's either late June, eraly July, temps can be a bit high and there isn't much shade on the course. I always try to recruit people to run in our team. But lots and lots of fun. You can also fundraise for the many good causes that Pride supports. Love the race and plan on doing it again for many years to come.
I ran this race in 2012 - my second. This is my favourite race - very fast course and the atmosphere is just wonderful. The post-race ceremony and the food and music are superb. I would recommend this race to anyone and will definitely return next year.
Ran this race in 2011 and loved it! Highly recommend for anyone. It's not the easiest course (around Queens Park) but it's honest and fair. The pre and post race festivities are one of a kind. The food is the best any race offers (cakes, pasta, OJ!!!). It's relatively cheap to register and supports a good cause. The awards ceremony is nice too. Like the team category as well (of course I would...we won!). Seriously though. A great race at a good time of year. The weather can be problematic but wasn't in 2011.
I ran this race in 2011. This race has it all: a fun atmosphere, great post-race party, and some seriously fast runners to chase. There's just a little too much traffic on the second loop around the course, having to bob and weave through the slower runners. Minor complaint - enjoy the race and the party - don't miss this race!
I did this race a couple of times, excellent value for the registration fee - mostly the fast course and post-party which is fun. Great spread of food, drinks, samples and post-run massage. The crowds at the finish line are excellent as well.
