Ran this race for the first time this year and it is the BEST small race I've ever participated in ('small' in terms of # participants, not 'small' in terms of swag, volunteers, organization or heart!).

The race kit was amazing, tons of amazing volunteers, great well marked route (mostly paved trail thru wooded area, great for shade during hot summer race), super well organized (bag check, shuttle back to start at end of race), and plenty of food to select from at the end of the race. Nice medal (first year they've given out medals). The new misting tent this year at the end of the race was awesome!

This is the REAL Amazing Race. The Cause, the love and dedication of runners, planners, volunteers(the purple people) and even the weather pushed this event into the front pages of the history books for Durham. Many more pages are still to be written. Change is positive....change is awesome....change is needed. The Refuge Rocks !!!

Great event, well organized. Loved the route and the aid stations on the way were very welcoming. The sign crew brought smiles with their captions. Lots of food at the finish area and the people cheering sure provide a boost at the end. Well done!!! Also like the idea of giving back with the race boxes - fantastic idea!

It was the 2nd time participating in this race and I absolutely loved it! I will definitely be participating in it again next year. The race course is well marked leading you through parkland and over to the waterfront with enthusiastic volunteers cheering you on every step of the way. Plenty of refreshments post race, awesome prizes, and Durham Transit buses shuttling runners back to their cars. Fantastic event all around!

This is the second time I have run the DQM and I really enjoyed it. It is a well organized race. The route is great, the t-shirt is wonderful and the post race atmosphere is fun. It is a great race for a great cause and I'll be running it every year.

1st time running this race. Well set up and executed. Course layout kept you off the roads for the most part and on some cool paved trails. I will be back next year!!

The DQM is a beautiful run down to Lake Ontario from Oshawa City Hall. Our family participates in a number of runs and this one is one of our favourites.
I here the swag is amazing and the fee is a charitable donation and you can run for free if you get sponsors.
It is inclusive for all ages of runners and abilities as the route is well planned and accessible.
So come on out bring your family and have a great run in support of vulnerable youth. Durham needs our help. There are only 12 youth beds in the entire region and all in Ajax. We can help more and doing our part and getting healthy is a win win for our community and everyone.
It takes a village to raise a attuned and successful youth. DQM is doing a great race to such ends. A MUST RUN!

I ran it in my socks for street life. It was the best experience but if I ever decide to run again, I will run in my shoes. I volunteered last year and would rather volunteer and will be volunteering again this year. God love ya!

An annual event for me! I have run this event in all kinds of conditions: good shape, two months post partum, with a baby stroller, with a double stroller, and have enjoyed it each time. The volunteers are very friendly, the trail is well shaded.
The only warning is that it is an "out only" course. There have always been plenty of shuttles, and it's never been a problem, but fyi.

June 2nd, 2014 12:40 pm

Loved this race so much last year I am getting a whole team together this year. It was my very first race and nothing has compared since. Loved the route and the people.

my overall experience was amazing. I have ran the marathon for 2 years and coming on my third. I beat my time on my first year run on last years run. I enjoyed training with the other youth prior to event day. the best part for me at the end of the run is getting the massage.

May 29th, 2014 12:11 pm

One of the best events I've attended. So much positive energy. Water station volunteers were so encouraging and so much fun. Everything was well marked and no confusion. The end of the event was worth staying for, so much food. The music was awesome. Thanks so much for providing us with a great event.

May 28th, 2014 3:36 pm

I ran the 1/4 marathon last year. It was such a beautiful scenic route. The terrane had flat parts and some challenging inclines as well. The finnish line was a pretty happening place. I felt encouraged crossing the line as supporters cheered us in. After, we were able to enjoy some great food, a fun inflatable gladiator joust, and get a free massage!
The race kit pick up was smooth and there were some pretty neat goodies inside. Looking forward to this year!

May 13th, 2014 1:43 pm

Enjoyed the route, enjoyed all the people involved and enjoyed the post race gathering down by the lake. And it's for a great cause.

May 13th, 2014 1:26 pm

I ran this race last year and it was great!! It was very well organized! I enjoyed that it was a small race-not too many people. It is so nice to run through parks!! It was very scenic!

April 16th, 2014 10:26 am

This is a very well organized race that raises money and awareness for a great cause. The course is beautiful, challenging, and fun. Improvements to the course have been made numerous times and the current course is the best yet. This is not a flat race but isn't super hilly either. Great balance that challenges you but still allows for PR's. I highly recommend this race!!

Having helped out with this event, I can attest to the hard work and diligence that shows just how seriously this event is taken! I've had many participants comment on how excellent the race is, from the care taken in registration, to the end of the line food and pampering. My husband runs the 1/4 and is can't wait for this years race. He loves the beauty of the course and the challenge of the path. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at the 1/8 this year, just from hearing how great it is to participate in!!!

March 24th, 2014 1:24 pm

This is a challenging and competitive race. The event is well-organized. Oshawa Creek and Waterfront trails provide a nice route. The race kits and shirts are premium, better than any other race in this area and category. Great cause at The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa. I'll be back!

August 6th, 2013 6:59 pm

Fantastic race! Well organized, great course and amazing cause. The volunteers were friendly and helpful, the parking is free, safe and close, and the kilometre markers are accurate. I'll definitely be back!

July 28th, 2013 9:39 pm

Well organized, friendly crowds, amazing volunteers, beautiful course. It's worth the long drive for me to make it there for a well thought out course, with amazing race loot bags (available for pick up on the day of the event), good race transportation buses, FREE Parking right near the start (Yeah!!), and it's affordable. Best of all - they welcome strollers! With a wide course at the start, it's easy to get to your pace band (without going in between people for a few km). The pace bunnies also help with this. Well worth commuting in for.

Great run. First half is downhill and second half is up. Great after race party and free T shirt. A great way to help street kids in Durham.

July 27th, 2013 12:20 pm

First time running this race and was very impressed. It's a small race, but organized like a big one with appropriate washrooms, water stations, excellent post race refreshments and food (much appreciated the Starbucks coffee and Clif bars!), and freebies from the main sponsor, Subway Restaurants.

The marshals were plentiful and encouraging and the route was dotted with locals cheering us on.

The cool breeze from the lake during the last kms was refreshing, and helped to keep cool.

All in all, a great race for anyone in the area or across the GTA, and of course, it is to support a very worthy cause.

I have run this race every year since it began (in I think 2005 or 2006.) There is a reason I keep running it every year! Always so organized with friendly staff and volunteers. Great course with beautiful, shaded cool trails. BEST race kit of any race I have ever run. Always a tshirt and this year I received FULL SIZED box of cookies and bottle of sunscreen! I was super-excited to get these unexpected products in my kit. Easy to register and convenient to pick up my kit at the Oshawa Centre since I live in Oshawa. As usual, can't wait til next year!

This event has two very cool point to point courses. It is well organized. It has a great finish and post race atmosphere. Lots of little extra extras that cater to runners. Every southern Ontario runner should try this event.

July 22nd, 2012 11:18 am

Great event filled with great people, definitely be doing it next year!

July 21st, 2012 2:55 pm

Great race and well organized. Plenty of food after and lots of water stations thru out.

July 21st, 2012 2:09 pm

Fantastic race! This event was well organized in every way. Race kits and technical shirt freebie were terrific. Tents and race course were clearly marked and labelled.

Great scenic and enjoyable route, mostly on the Oshawa Creeks trail.
There were soooo many volunteers to support the runners; it was awesome. This is a real credit to the organizer. Professional from start to finish.

Can't wait to race this one again next year.

This will be my fourth year in a row participating in this race.. I absolutely love it. The cause, the course, the food afterwards... I have no complaints whatsoever! I find it challenging, yet it still allows me to run some of my best times. I look forward to this year's race event, the slight change in course is something to look forward too and I absolutely love running in the summer time! Also, very cool to have some elite athletes joining us this year.. always an inspiration.

Thanks, and I highly recommend you to register!!!

June 25th, 2012 3:32 pm

It's a beautiful route, and an exciting race to run! The finish line makes it all worth while with everyone cheering you on!

June 25th, 2012 10:47 am

Love this race! Its always a challenge to run hard in the middle of summer. The trails really help. Everything on this run is first rate, well organized and helping a cause within our community.

Great work

June 18th, 2012 3:46 pm

This a challenging and beautiful race along the Oshawa Trails. The breeze off the water is very welcome in the second half of the course. The race kits are well put-together and the finish area is a treat, especially the massage. Besides who doesn't like running for a great cause like The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre?!?!

I entered the 1/8 marathon last year. My first time really running. It was a challenging course but making it to the finish line was well worth it! Fireman's hose to cool you down at the end was the highlight for me. They take care of you with great snacks at the end, a massage and best of all cheering as you cross the finish line. I'll be back again this year!

June 11th, 2012 3:40 pm

This is a fantastic race, the course is absolutely beautiful and the preparations are extensive. Free massages, lots of free food, great race kits, there's honestly nothing bad about this race!

March 13th, 2012 9:25 am

This is one of the best small races around, well worth the drive if you are from Toronto, or even west / north of the GTA. Clarence Keesman and his staff go the extra mile, in many ways. The race started with humble beginnings 6-7 years ago, it has a unique course starting dwtn and running through parks and paths and finishing by the water. BEST race kit anywhere, fast course relatively speaking, post-run atmosphere and food / drink is superb.
