I loved this race. Mostly because what was one of the hardest races I have done was made more enjoyable by the amazing volunteers that help to organize this race. 2 weeks before the race I feel and did some serious damage (broken wrist amongst the damage). I was doubtful that I was going to be able to do the race. Thanks to the amazing support I went from not even going to try to DFL. I am not a fast runner so often I'm one of the last to cross the finish line. This is honestly the first race that I was not made to feel like a big loser for this fact. This may have been in part due to the relaxed nature of race (i.e., a 10am start time to accommodate enjoying a relaxing weekend from the moment of arrival on Friday); but was likely mostly due the amazing support from volunteers, including one volunteer that rode along side my friend and I for nearly 10k. Truly amazing!
If that sort of race support doesn't entice you to want to do this race than how about these perks:
-Great shirt and medal that are unique and tied to the theme (based on a winery label)
-Beautiful location: the island itself is lovely and the course is very flat.
-Amazing afterparty that included a delicious food buffet, wine, and an entertaining band
-Great opportunity to get away with friends!
I am looking forward to doing this race again in 2017 without injury! :)
Extremely well organized race. Beautiful location, flat course, enthusiastic & friendly local support and volunteers along the route. The shirt & medal are unique - love them! But the best part is finishing at the winery with a fantastic spread of food, a glass of wine and live music - where you can celebrate with friends: old and new. Who could ask for more? I would definitely do this one again!
For some reason the start time was later this year , 10 am. For those of us who take a while to finish, and the overhead sun roasting down for the last 5K,I have to question this change. I wasn't feeling too good at the end...nonetheless..You take the ferry across..the locals are there to greet and offer rides to your B&B; several restaurants had pasta bars on their menus. And the piece to resistance, the finish line is in the winery..A fabulous spread...incredible food/lunch,when did you have a salad bar, chicken, fried perch ,quinoa, fruit platters as part of the post race food!! and a glass of wine including the free glass. PLUS the most unique medals...piece of art really...and the shirts with the monarch butterfly on the front..a fashion statement.
A really fun event, and a great course. The waves were crashing in along the shoreline road and you could feel the spray. A very flat course and scenic. A small race(300) but lots of people at the post-race party in the vineyard. I highly recommend this event.
Love, love, loved it. Great course; incredibly scenic, very peaceful, and a great run. Loved the support from the locals on the island and the families of the other runners along the course. The last 5 kilometers were blisteringly hot and into a strong head wind, but what's a half marathon if not challenging, right?
Hoping to run again next year! :)
Loved the race and the island. Such a wonderful experience; everyone should do it!
This event was an inagural event, and it was my first half marathon, so the two just seemed to go together. I was excited to part of the event, and was not disappointed. The volunteers along the route were amazing, cheering me on, the event started on time, and was well laid out, with funny signage to keep you going the next little bit. The island is very scenic, and had lots of shade available on the route. The islanders were very friendly on the Saturday while we waited for the race the next day, which gave us the unique opportunity to meet follow runners in casual settings and then cheer them on during the race or at the fabulous luncheon at the winery at the end of the event.
My hat off to the organizers and people who did all the logistics to ferry / house / set up course / entertain and feed us ... Thank YOU ..
I had such a good time at this race. Chris and his team were so friendly and helpful. The course was beautiful and the after party had great food and wine. The best after party ever! The finishers medal and hoodie were the best I've had in my 8 half marathons and countless 5 and 10K races. The island residents were also very friendly and encouraging along the way. In fact one island resident (thanks Ron) not only offered water but had a small table with Jim Beam and beer chasers. Loved the hearse at the side of the house! Thanks Lynn from Ohio for joining me in partaking of the little pick me ups. I think it helped to keep us going! Was happy to see the Grim Reaper at the 20K mark and the winery just around the corner. Chris and his team do a great job of making the race fun, safe and very special! I'll be back and hopefully will bring some of the Running Room folks with me!
Loved this race, scenic course, great way to see the island. Friendly, supportive locals along the course, lots of water stations. Best After party and food I've ever seen and can't forget the wine! Good pasta dinner the night before too. Will definitely run this course again!
A terrific setting for a well-managed run. This my second runningflat-run event and I can't recommend them highly enough. Absolutely wonderful experience!
Beautiful, peaceful run with lots of friendly volunteers handing out water/Gatorade. The after run luncheon with wine was delicious and the band a nice touch too! I hope to be able to run this event again in the future....well worth the ferry ride!
Beautiful peaceful run.. Lots of shade and sunny parts as well. Ending at a winery with a generous glass of wine was the best part! Great weekend getaway with friends
