The Oakville Half Marathon is definitely a scenic course running through beautiful Oakville. It is also flat and fast allowing for the opportunity of a PB. The only improvement I would make is full lane / road closures as passing is tight. The medal is beautiful as well as a really nice technical shirt. This is most definitely a great race for the beginner, intermediate, or seasoned runner and I hope to do it again next year. Thanks Oakville!

This course was flat with minimal hills. This is a perfect beginner course, no matter the distance. And i found the swag bag to be better than a lot of the "big name" races. For instance, we got an entire pack of dog treats in our bag. I dont have a dog but my friend's dog was appreciative! I wish i didnt have to wait at the 5k start time for 1 hour before the race. But, i do understand that it is because of limited buses and having a tight schedule. My only suggestion would be to add more swag stuff from local businesses (we love free stuff!) And more venders. Maybe local massage or physio businesses would like to get in on this event for potential clientel? Furthermore, if hot temperatures are expected (like today), i would suggest adding more water stations in all race categories. Some people in the 5k didnt have water on them and i could see them suffering. I know it is the runner's responsibility to have water on them but i feel like if the race organizers took this initiative, it would increase the overall experience, people talking more positively about the race which would result in getting more runners. I believe this race truly has the capacity to be something big. Just have to get there! 100% recommend this race.

Not sure why thus race got a black eye in the ratings.
It's my second year doing the 10 and I thought it was fine.
Medals were ok, buses were prompt, course was flat, well marked and well patrolled.
My only beef was the inability to get the race kit day-of.
For me, it was a long drive and doing it twice wasn't fun.
I'll note the beachside watching the sunrise before the race is always nice.

Love this race !
Ran in 2014 & 2015.
Perfect for a first Half Marathon as it allows a long summer of training.
Course is flat , can be a bit boring at times - but I still would run this again and again.
Volunteers are awesome & police officers were great.
Race kit always rocks

The course is flat and nice, the police officers did a great job, as did the enthusiastic volunteers which was very good, and the weather was great but the good points about this race stop there. The race is longer than it's supposed to be, the medal and the shirt given to you were crappy, the race expo was tiny, I never received an email with my bib number, the list goes on and on. The buses from the nearest parking lot was a nice idea BUT the last bus left a full hour before the race. A lot of people got to the race an hour and a half early, twiddling their thumbs waiting for the sun to rise. They had a hand washing station by the port-a-potties, which would have been nice except it ran out of water an hour before the race started. Overall, I would recommend the mississauga marathon over this one, mississauga had a way better setup, a more scenic route, a better bag from the expo, better organization, and even more enthusiastic crowds. But I will say this, the Oakville Marathon has a great flat fast route.

I raced the 10K race in the rain and although the conditions were miserable (thanks Mother Nature) the race was okay.

There was a mandatory pick up the day before the race, which was fine since I am local. The race kit was phenomenal, simply because it had KT Tape (!!) in it amongst a few other things.

On the morning of the race they had shuttle buses, I did not use them but they met at a convenient location. There were ample porta-potties. Unfortunately, we had to wait around outside and it was raining.

The course is mostly flat but the road is banked a bit so it helpd to run on Lakeshore near the centre line. I felt that the police did a good job at the major intersections. There was a band playing near the 3/4 mark. It is unfortunate that it was pouring outside because it made the race less enjoyable.

The race medal was really cute and there was a lot of food at the finish and maybe live music and vendors. Again, POURING RAIN so we didn’t stick around.

Very disappointed with this race.

Would recommend it to runners or those wishing to complete a shorter distance but would not recommend to anyone wanting to walk the 21.1km.

Some of the problems encountered:

CLOSED WATER STATIONS!!!! At no time should water stations be closed while racers are on a course. Not exactly safe to walk with no water.

Some intersections not police patrolled. Again not safe!!!!

Wrong bib numbers e-mailed out IF you were actually fortunate enough to receive an e-mail (I never received my e-mail)

Mandatory expo for bib pickup the day before...understandable...but the bib pickup should have opened on time.

It was a nice challenge to have a time limit of 3 hrs 30min for a half marathon walk but I regret walking it because we did not feel safe.

Decent course and well marshalled/policed but sparse crowds due I'd hope to wet weather. Disappointed with many organisational aspects ...

1) No race day pick up meaning a 3 hour round trip on Saturday to get a race t-shirt that has more wrinkles than an old folks home.
2)Bib number received by e-mail was incorrect. Everyone had to check a manual list upon race day pick up which was placed off to the side instead of being incorporated into a continuous flow. Dumb.
3) Last bus from designated parking at Bronte a full 75 minutes before start of race. Very poor.
4)My chip was correctly positioned but did not work so not sure what my actual time was.
5)Post race photos on website are screwed up. That's not me!! It's not even the correct race. Or gender. But it is a runner.

Better value and basic planning elsewhere.

Bye Oakville.

Great race, nicely organized. Prizes for top finishers. A BAND played post race!!! You don't often see that races anymore (entertainment!). Race course is nice and flat.

2012 was my first time running this race. The course was very scenic, pretty flat, lots of aid stations, and great volunteers. Race pack pick-up was quick and easy. Parking on race morning is a bit of a pain, and will get worse especially if the race grows in numbers. Love the early start as it can still be pretty warm in September.

I really enjoyed Oakville despite the error in distance. Don't get me wrong the course measurements really need to be carefully reviewed and executed so there is no repeat of this in 2013. That being said I found this very fast and flat and it is the perfect time of year for the race but there needs to be enough communication with everyone involved in the race to ensure things operate smoothly in 2013.

Good race for a training run, but it is very disappointing in:

1. Cost is to expensive.
2. No race day pick up.
3. Unfriendly volunteers.
4. Lack of medical assistance to racers on the course. Volunteers just standing there doing nothing.
5. Lack of port-o-potties.
6. Lack of parking without being tagged.
7. Unable to count. Distance is longer than normal half distance.
8. Meager crowds.
9. Expo was puny. I guess there were no other sponsors wanting to sponsor this crap race.
10. Moved the race from Labour Day to end of September.

Even though I'm a local resident, it's not a race I'm going to participate again.

Ran the 10km here in 2012. Nice route! I am from Oakville and have only been running for 6 months, so I was excited to have a race in my hometown. Would have been nice to see more local vendors with a tent offering discounts to those with bibs? Lole Atelier had a tent and offered 30% off to those registered which was superb. Would be nice to have Lululemon, Titika, etc. there as well.
Great swag available at expo and in kit - everything from chocolate/bag of grass seed/granola bars/juice boxes. I was happy with that.
I also think that kit pickup on race day should be available on race day for all races - just personal opinion though, I know this is difficult to accomodate.
Didn't realize there was an extra few hundred metres until I read the above reviews. Since I was running for fun and not a PB, I also didn't realize that there were issues with prizing as some others have commented. Overall, I had a fun day.

Nice work with the comments. We pay good money to race and RD's need to hear the feedback. If they are good RD's, they will use the comments to make next year a better event.

Well looks like my club mate Dan beat me to the punch...... I agree with all his points.

Nothing worse than training hard and when it comes to see if it has all been worthwhile, it is undone by a long course. Also, while it looks like I personally was lucky in terms of prizing, there is no way 3rd master should be getting more than 3rd overall and especially not more than 2nd master woman.

All that aside, the course is a good course and organization post race in terms of food, etc. was good.

But will I return next year.....doubtful but then again if the rather anonymous organizers of the race made some sort of statement then I may reconsider.

Poorly organized race; sadly it's an amazing route. They made it 300m longer, and they kept arguing with me after the race that it was certified. Apparently, they moved the start by 300m. Pathetic expo as well. I will not be coming back unless something drastically improved. Big fail by Landmark Sport Group.

I don't normally post poor race reviews but sadly, for Oakville, I will have to make an exception. Why? The course was between 300 and 400m long. That's well over a minute! In my opinion, race directors have two essential jobs: to have an accurately measured course and an accurately timed event. Oakville failed to do this. Also having no race day pick-up is ridiculous for those not from Oakville. I spent almost 2 hrs driving to and from Toronto to get my kit on Saturday. The prizing was also strange. Oakville is being added to a small list of DNR (Do not race) events and unless you don't care about running an accurate time or distance, you should not consider this event.

I ran this race in 2011, and in 2010. This is a fast, mostly flat course and well suited to PBs.

My complaint: no race day kit pickup for those outside of Oakville. The race "expo" is tiny and really just geared to the local runners, so driving to and from Oakville the day before the race is a waste of time. I've offered this feedback to the race organizers twice now, and it appears from their 2012 website that it's still not an option. I suspect that the early race start is because the city is uptight about road closures, so maybe this is the reason for the lack of race day kit pickup, but it really is short-sighted because this is a good race and it could really grow into a great event if there was more incentive for GTA-based runners (or southwest Ontario based runners) to pick up kits on Sunday...and with more runners maybe prizes could be a little more generous, and not just leftovers from the Mississauga Marathon.
