I have done this race every year since it was founded. We invite friends to our cottage for the long weekend and head out to Minett from our cottage on Sunday morning to do either the 5k or 10k. The 10k is a very challenging course for the competitive runner because of the hills, particularly from the 3rd to the 8th kilometer. I would say it is the toughest 10k that I have ever done, and I have done many races. The 5k is a great race for recreational runners who would like a bit of a challenge. Very well organized by Laurel and Lynn, friendly and helpful volunteers and a great cause in Camp Ooch.
This was my first year doing this race (I entered the 10k). I had heard it was a hilly course, but didn't believe it until I experienced it! If you have done your share of relatively flat road races, step it up and try this one. Managing the hills challenges you to add a little strategy to your race plan. I was awed by the talented front runners who finished with sub-40 times on this course - incredible :)
There was a great community feel to this event, with a race for all ages. The finish line was rather impressive, compared to other races of this modest size. There was a good assortment of pre/post race food and beverages, and a tech shirt was included in your entry fee (which, for me, has more utility than your typical cotton t-shirt).
There were ample age-group medals awarded, which was rather time consuming. My only suggestion might be to broaden the age groups (i.e. from 20-24 to 20-29) to simplify the award procedure.
Overall a great experience!
This is a challenging and beautiful course with lovely race directors! The race directors are kind and thoughtful. The race crew is helpful and friendly! I hope to come back next year!
This was my second muskoka race, it was great!!! I would reccomend it to the whole family. it was a great because it raises money for a great cause
Great race! This is my first time doing the Muskoka Rocks race and I thought it was very well organized. The staff working were all very friendly and supportive. My only wish is that there would have been a wider track to run on. Overall, great event!
Very difficult race, the hills provide an added challenge to any competitive runner.
i have volunteered at this race since it's inception. the race directors are fabulous and the volunteers are always so much fun. this is the best race in the business.
I have run these races many times, always a summer highlight! Either it's the toughest 5 and 10km run you will ever run (if you are trying to set a PB or win an awesome age group prize)....or it's the best charity experience on the running scene. Out and back course where if you arrive early you may see Deer or a Bear scamper across the road, well organized, great swag, post-run drinks and food, and usually a few local celebrities make an appearance (if you like NHL hockey players)...lol.
