The venue was amazing, Parking went smoothly and they had a great event village lots to do for spectators. The course was challenge with a good mix of Terrain and obstacles.
I'll be cheap and copy/paste what I recently wrote to a friend. Keep in mind I am a 49 year young distance runner, female:
Had a wonderful time last Sunday at the Spartan Race. The temperature was also awesome. I was at first worried I wouldn't be able to make it. Most everyone looked buffed. But the mood was festive. Everyone felt pumped up for a good time, and so did I. After all, I can always opt for burpees if I refuse to or cannot do an obstacle. Nothing to lose, just enjoy the day.
We started right-off having to jump over burning logs. Not bad. But then I got surprised with a fire hose on my face, almost lost my glasses. We then proceeded on a run up the mountain and back down, it was difficult terrain, muddy, slippery, rocks, irregular terrain, unpaved, all for the first few kilometers. There was too many people, it was hard to pass the slow people, so for a long time I had to patiently wait till I see an opening. This is when I realized my cadio is better than them buffed muscle mag guys. Felt like pushing them to the ground, aroooo (LOL).
The race was supposed to be 5km, but someone with a sportwatch said it was 7.5. The obstacles came randomly, but they where reasonably difficult. hat-ever. We had to jump over wide crevaces, rivers, cross wet logs. The hardest one, crawling in the mud where barbed wire was spread just 1 foot above the ground, and this for 150 meters. This is where I got most of my scrapes and bruises, as stones and tree roots where lying under that mud. After that we had to carry a heavy sand bag several hundred meters. Climb rock cliffs, ropes, tow heavy weight, climb walls, crawl under ground (feel sorry for anyone clusterphobic, nah). Throw javelins (I missed, so, burpees), balance-walk on a short wall without getting off. My balance sucked, burpees.
That was the Spartan sprint. Next year I'll do the Super Spartan race. It is longer, but I think there will be less people. And I know what to work on to avoid burpees and to cut time when having to climb stuff.
Nice site to gather with friends. Challenging course all the way for all level of sport enthousiasts! Water missing along the way though. Seriously considering doing the 12k instead of the 5k next year. :o) Aroo - I am Spartan!
