An odd distance but a very fun run. I really needed to find a run for the weekend. I was looking for a 5km race but given Monday was the only day I could run this race seemed like the best option. There wasn't much info to be found on the web about this race so I contacted the race director via email. She was very quick with her responses and very helpful. I decided to run this race. What a great course! A paved/concrete path along the waterfront with very few pedestrians early on a Sunday morning. A good hill climb to start over the first 500m and they a very raceable course. It was a little old school in the timing (no chips) and that caused a delay in getting final results but in a race this size (80 runners) that is aiming to raise as much money as possible for a local charity it is acceptable. The after race food and drink was a little less than normal but with a Tim Hortons across the street no one seemed too bothered. It would be nice to have bananas in the future. The price was reasonable compared to other races ($35 on race day) and the finishers medal (not sure if a wooden medal is actually called a medal) was certainly unique among finisher medals. I would recommend a website for next year or at least more detailed info on the Running Room website.
My whole family took part in this race. The course itself was very nice, but the organization of the event was disappointing to say the least. I learned about the event through the Running Room and registered for the race there quite early. I did not receive any further information from the event organizers. I didn't even know that the event for for the food bank until I read it in our local newspaper. I finally contacted the race coordinator a couple of days before the race to get some much needed information. She responded by saying that she was surprised I hadn't received any emails and directed me to a Facebook page. She didn't answer my questions and neither did the Facebook page! After the event we stayed for the awards portion. There were a lot of mix ups and confusion. At one point they lost the paper with all the race results on it.
This could have been a really great event if it had been better organized, but as it is I won't take part in it again.
Much like all other well run races I've been to but smaller and more scenic. Take in the beauty of the Bay at the top of the short hill or as you run along the shoreline in this (6k) 3k out, 3k back course. The volunteers and organizers were enthusiastic, helpfull and it was for a good cause (the local food bank). As North TO mentioned above, having a Tim's across the street as well as plenty of parking is "gold".
Fun little local race on a beautiful scenic trail by the lake. Encouraging volunteers and MC. Not much in the way of refreshments, but with a Timmies across the street and considering this race is in support of a local food bank, it was all good. Handmade finishers medal perfect souvenir for 2013 perfect from "cottage country".
I love this trail! I used to run it from Bayport to Victoria Harbour when training for marathons. The short 3k out and 3k back with a couple of hills to make it interesting makes for a great sprint course. Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers for putting on a well organized and smooth running morning. I'll be back next year!
