I had an amazing time for a first timer. the race was well organized, challenging and overall a fun. free parking and and beautiful picturesque blue mountain resort. lots of free swag and good restaurants to choose from. obstacles were first rate with NO lineups.
I think that the common theme from the 2014 race was that it seemed to be done on the cheap. The obstacles were 'lame' and the very fact that the organizers did away with timing chips was frustrating for most racers (once you completed the race you had to coral to have your time input via iPad). For the price I struggle to find the value in this race.
MCB was fortunate to get the craziest weather last year for both it's race weekends and have memorable mud making the whole downhill portion of Blue Mountain an obstacle! The obstacles were well made and spaced out. The race directors are fabulous, thinking of every detail they can to make this event successful. They kindly donated a portion of race entries to the Soldier On Fund - which helps ill and injured canadian soldiers recondition through sports and activities. The age group prizes were very cool military helmets. Awesome venue, helpful volunteers, and a great reason to spend a day up in beautiful Collingwood. We will be back for sure!
Had a great time! I must say that our team did not seem very excited or motivated a week before the event but everyone had such an amazing experience competing that we have all signed up for the 10K next year! Great course and reasonable and fun obstacles. I agree with the other comments about shortage of water, running out of beer tickets and lack of photographs however the experience itself was awesome!
INCREDIBLE race!!! 1st obstacle course race. Completed this with my husband and a fantastic experience for us both. I LOVE that it encompassed both strength, and cardio. I find running boring but this race is ANYTHING but that!~!!! I wish I could do this every weekend. I am seriously addicted. Signed up for 2014 the very next day!!!!!!!!! Thanks for a great time!
Awesome race... already signed up for 2014
Two The Core
Congratulations to met con blue for putting together a fantastic course! Finally a local race that can take advantage of our spectacular environment here, not to mention the buzzing village at blue! Our team had a blast and will make it a repeat next year!

Wrote a funny, tongue-in-cheek first-hand account of my first Met Con Blue race on my blog, simcoefitnessseeker.blogspot.com. (Post Met Con: A New Recruit's Journey into Mudness"). We had a team of nine, age ranges from teens to 40s, moms with their kids, etc and all levels of ability. We had an absolute blast, and we all helped each other through it. I would definitely recommend going in as a team. Several of us have already signed up for next year.
love the idea of this race and the race itself i was unimpressed while waiting for the photos to see there was only 3 obstacles covered??.... i dont see a reason why more photographers could have been on the course.. some people were clearly photographed more than others because I was only able to find one of myself in the background of others.. this was disappointing i would have liked to document my experience with some pictures but am unable to do so...
I did the 10K race. It was fun to have some of the additional obstacles, but could have done with a few more. Also, there were NO water stations on the 10K until we joined back on the 5K part of the run....and the jugs were basically empty and no cups. The obstacles themselves were good, and well spaced on the 5K portion. A bit disappointed that our "host", Trish Stratus, didn't seem to make an appearance. Having completed the Dash, Mudder, Spartan, Zombie Race, and this...I will think a bit before signing up.
This is my 3rd Met Con and once again I loved it. One complaint though...I found it to be disorganized this year. There was not enough signage. Saw people going the wrong way and had to call them back. Then I went the wrong way at a different section. Will still do it again but hope that it is a bit better organized.
Already signed up for next year!
I have done a few other obstacle races prior to this one. This was very unorganized (no signs). We spent alot of time looking where to go. We never did get our free beer - we were never given the ticket after going back and forth many times between the finish line and the bar where the beer was to be at. Wasn't much for obstacles. In the end we still made the best of it and had some fun.
had a great time. They need more signage to fin where things are. First water break on the 10K not until you rejoin the 5k? More water stations for the 10k is a must
Great race!!! Some thumbs up: parking was close and easily accessible, no line ups, registration was quick and easy, the route was a nice mix of elevation and difficulty and the obstacles were top notch! (I've ran the Warrior Dash and the obstacles at MetCon were so much better!!!!)
Some thumbs down: The only bummer was the water stations. They were not manned and as a result cups were not available (which was a surprise because I ran the 10:30 wave). It wouldn't have matter though because there was no (or very little)water in the jugs anyway. If you could find one that had some water, you had to try and lift it with your "spaghetti" arms over your head and attempt to get some water.
Over all: Would rather complete MetCon again over the "Dash"!! Signing up ASAP for next year! :)
This was an awesome race! I think I am am officially addicted. My one complaint is the lack of water - none left at the water stations and none available at the end of the race. The obstacles were perfectly challenging but still doable. I will enter this race again for sure.
Great race.....awesome obsticles! Got to water station #1 and was out of water.....got to water station #2 and also was out of water.....unacceptable for a race such as this. I told the person manning the next obsticle and he told me 'someone will be working on it'. Due to lack of water and it being a hot day and taking my team about 1.5 hours I am giving it a low amount of bananas.
This is my second year participating in Metcon. I loved it even MORE this year. They changed the course and obstacles a bit. Liked the set up better this year. But body is hurting from this intense course, in a good way :) I have already signed up for next year.
This was my first race I have ever entered, let aloneness first obstacle race! It was an amazing experience for sure! I looked forward to the water/mud obstacles I felt like get have me this huge boost of energy! A few things that were rather in organized I found, was that to get registered and to pick ip your pack you had no idea where to go unless you've already been there before, or you had to ask someone. Also we never received our free beer, no one told us that we had to give our chip to the people at the end, so because we took off our chip and put it in the bucket, we didn't receive our beer ticket, which was a downer. I also think that the water obstacles should be spread out more, and with more drink stations. Other than that it was amazing, I've already signed up for next year!
the big obstacles were super fun but some were lacking. perhaps more mud pits to end the race covered it is a mud race and i found there was more mud water then actual mud...
Great run up the mountain & through the trails! More mud needed for sure!!
Fun day but a little unorganized & they need more signs so participants know where to go.
Once again, a extremely fun run. A lot harder than the last one, and not just because of the extreme weather we had. Still a race I would highly recommend over other adventure races. Very easy to sign in and park, great volunteers who stood in that crappy weather all day cheering on folks.
Can't wait for next years!
I have never ever done a race like this before, and now I think I'm hooked! Even though is was raining all day, that just added to the fun :) Everyone in the race was very supportive and helped when you needed a hand or words of encouragement. My team is already signed up for 2013 and can't wait!!!
I had a brilliant time!!!! It rained ALL DAY and my girls and I were in the last heat of the day. The entire race was one giant mud slide. I was soaked, muddy, and exhausted!!! Wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Next day we book our time for June 13, 2013. see you next year.
Met Con Blue 2 was awesome! Scared the hell outta me for most of the way down hill... loved playing plinko down through the trees, the obstacles were just right and well placed. If you could always schedule hurricane rains before the race or during it would be epic! Can't wait to do it again!
Met Con 1 was my first adventure race ever... I was immediately hooked! I "trained" (sort of) for the second one, which was more challenging but equally as fun. Getting dirty is awesome, being sore is awesome, and crossing that finish line, well, it's super awesome.
Thanks to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers and Blue Mountain for offering our area this level of professionalism in a race. Can't wait for June 2013!
Round 2 of Met Con Blue was amazing!!!!!! The pouring rain made for a muddy day, but it only ampted up the experience! The new obstacles were a blast! Its an incredible race and venue and I would recommend it to anyone. The obstacles are challenging but obtainable! Seeing my husband slide all the way down a 200ft. muddy hill on his ass was such a highlight! We were soaked and we were muddy, and we were loving it!!! Looking forward to next year!
wow.. I trained harder for my 2nd Met Con, but the rain really thumped that away!
I'd like to see more ropes on the super steep bits as careening into trees wasn't fun.Everyone was great again..helpful and kind on the course if you needed a hand up or a help down steep terrain.
Still nursing bruises, but if my schedule permits, I want to do this race again.
Great race, the tougher the better. Critic, the web page has to update the race course from the June race as September was much different.
Great job Met Con !!!!

Wow, what an event! I am biased since this is a client of mine, and I was lucky to race for free....but....race directors take note. EVERY detail imaginable was taken into consideration, including regular visits by the race organizers to the vendors on site, even with fruit, water and when the rain was tumultous at times, they brought tent sidewalls to each of us who did not have them.
Yeah, it was extra wet and muddy which probably adds to the fun of an obstacle run, and since I was in the 2nd last wave it was sparse pickings at the finish area as most everyone who raced earlier were back in their chalets drying socks. The course itself was not too bad and some of the obstacles were easy, but some were quite difficult as my sore arms and legs can attest 48hrs later. I would say anyone who finished this in these brutal conditions deserves a 2nd beer! I want to THANK the unknown athlete who stopped me 2/3 into the race, in a very steep, tricky downhill section in the forest, as I slid backwards in the mud for at least 12-15 feet, gaining speed and certain to impale a tree when I was stopped from doing more damage to my butt, back and body (I have a proud 12-inch gash to show for this).
Definitely track spikes next year! And the wobbly snakes and ladders obstacle was brilliant. DO add this to your schedule next year, I was 3rd in my age group and plan on improving my time in 2013.
What an event!! The second met con just reassured me that these guys really know what they're doing! The course was truly insane and the rain only added to the fun. The turn out was amazing regardless of the rain and cool weather and the atmosphere was epic! Such a wicked group of people turning up again made the whole day a blast! Loved it. Highly recommend!
What a great event! So well organized! I have volunteered twice for the Met Con Race and have loved
doing it! The atmosphere is fun and inviting! I haven't heard one negative thing about the race!
Can't wait to participate next year!
The rain only made the race more challenging! Did not put a damper on anything :) The muddier the better really!! Really well organized and for my first obstacle race an amazing experience! Toughest thing I have ever done. Everyone on the course was really helpful to each other which made it all the better. Will definitely be at the June race!
Another fabulous race! I found this one more challenging than the last. Enjoyed all the obstacles. Even didn't mind the Mother Nature obstacles.
Our team had such a great time that we already have some folks registered for June AND are recruiting like mad.
See you in June MCB Nation!
My favorite race this year! The hardest trails I have ever run, combined with great people make a great day. Going down a steep decent in the mud with almost no hand holds would normally be impossible. But not when every one in the race is helping each other. You fall and the guy beside you picks you up. And the staff were just as friendly. Obstacles were fun, and the location was great.
I am definitely excited to run it next year, rain or shine!
Awesome race (the pouring rain just made it all the more challenging)! I much preferred MCB to some of the other adventure races I've done. Obstacles & terrain were difficult enough that they pushed me, but not impossible to overcome.
The free parking was definitely a plus too, unlike some other races that try to gouge your wallet at every opportunity.
Post-race photos, while a little overpriced, are excellent. Really like the way they're organized: photos for most obstacles, based on what time you would have been at that obstacle, rather than one giant set of only the finish line.
Will definitely do again next year! Blue ra!
Absolutely insane 5km race. The great people at Met Con did not disappoint with their second race. I will be there again June 2013, can't wait!
Wow. What a tough 5k. It felt like it was 10k. Metcon was the hardest 67 minutes of my life! I've done the warrior dash twice. Metcon makes Warrior Dash look like a senior citizens' walk in the park. The venue was awesome.
Some of the highlites....
Rain, high quality professional looking tough obstacles, mud, steep hills, steeper hills, Trish Stratus, easy access on site FREE parking, and the course was unbelievable. Check in was fast.
One small thing... I ran in the 2pm heat, ran my ass off and didn't get a beer! They packed it up too soon!
I had a great day. Despite terribly tough conditions I had a blast. I'll be back next year!
The 2nd Met Con Blue event did not disappoint, the weather added another element to an another tough event! The organizers at Met Con Blue, the volunteers, etc. everyone involved truly puts together an incredible event and experience for all. Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the June 2013 event!
What else can I say, everyone here has said it already, just about a perfect first time experience and can't wait for the next one!
Met Con was a blast! It was such a well organized day for a first time event! The run was a challenge and the obstacles added an extra element of fun. The course was really well laid out and was challenging without feeling impossible. The comraderie was high all day and the teams event especially looked like a total blast. I would definitely recommend anyone participate in this whether it's your first time doing a mud run or if you're a seasoned pro. I can't wait for the next one!
Met Con Blue was SO different than any other race I've run! I loved how I could get so muddy, challenge myself AND have lots of laughs while being amongst a fun crew of participants and friends! The obstacles were challenging and safe too, I especially liked hauling my ass over the rope wall with other racers! The volunteers were excellent and just as ready to 'get dirty' like all of the racers! I will definately do this race again! Blue-Ra!!!
Met Con was one of the best times of my life! Not only did I push my limits, but driving up with new people and going through the course with a team of strangers was an amazing experience where I found myself making close new friends! The course itself was a blast, but the vibe of the entire event was top notch, especially how involved and on the scene Trish was not only for her team but fans alike.
Sure, the weather wasn't amazing, but in an adventure race who expects things to be easy and clean the entire time right? Perhaps a slightly bigger and more organized celebration at the finish line with some food/drink would heighten the experience, but that's just me stretching for cherries on the cake of an already great experience.
I also liked the location being Blue Mountain. My group made a weekend of it and stayed to catch some sights and eat/drink/dance in the evening. The perfect weekend! Can't wait for round two! BLU-RAH!!!
This is the first time I have ever participated in this type of event. I LOVED IT!! Couldn't stop talking about it for weeks. I have my bib number and Mission Complete badge on the wall in my office. The obstacles were amazing. Overall one of the best challenges I have ever put to myself. Looking forward to September!!
awesome way to kick yourself in the ass about getting back into shape if that hill doesn't tell u nobody will
Thrills and a few spills, but mostly fun! I absolutely loved MetConBlue I had a huge grin on my face the whole time (even when I was jumping through fire pits and swinging across ice water!). I would highly recommend this race because mostly it's just fun and has a great supportive 'we all win' atmosphere.
MetConBlue was an incredible race! The obstacles were challenging but a ton of fun. The event was so well organized so congrats to the whole team who put it together. The location was perfect, with great scenery throughout the entire race. Can't wait to do it again September 8th!
The best word to sum up the MetConBlue Experience: AWESOME!!!!!!!! I don't think there was a person at the event without a huge smile plastered on their muddy face! Happy and helpful volunteers, the event was professional and very well organized.
Can not wait for the next race!!!!!!
Had a great time at Met Con Blue on June 2nd! The weather was a little on the cooler side, but that just challenged us to run harder! Completely shocked that this was a first time event, it was extremely well run! Looking forward to returning on Sept 8th!
Metcon Blue Mountain Race, was invigorating, exciting, dangerous and whole lotta fun!
Met Con Blue was AMAZING! The terrain was challening and the obstacles were very well made. I found the obstacles to really challenge your strength and endurance, especially Cold Plunge (monkey bars) and Life Line. I have ran Warrior Dash as well and find Met Con Blue to be as challenging and FUN!! I'm looking forward to running Met Con Blue on Sept. 8th 2012!! Let's pray for SUN!!
Excellent Race, tough obstacles, and well organized!!!
Can't wait till September!
What a blast! And a fully canadian company too....worth trying if you have not jumped into these new types of events yet, I have completed some triathlons and adventure races in this area and the scenery is worth the drive!
Met Con Blue was an amazing experience all together - from the location to the obstacles to the atmosphere, Met Con Blue definitely delivered Stratusfaction - as they also had Trish Stratus as their host which was pretty cool! I will definitely attend next time around!
The MetCon Blue race in June was an absolute blast!! I had a great time!! Blue Mountain offers the ideal terrain and conditions for this type of race. The obstacles were well made, as well as challenging, and are definately comparable to those of other adventure races while still being unique. Since running Met Con, I have participated in the Warrior Dash, and I must say that the Blue Mountain race easily holds its own against the more widely known 'American' based brand. I will definately be signing up to do MetCon again, and I think that anyone who is an avid adventure race go'er would find it to be both a challenge and a great time!
Met Con Blue is an amazing race! Awesome course, challenging but do-able obstacles. This was my first adventure race and I cannot wait to do it again September 8th 2012!!!
For a first time race by Met Con Blue, I was blown away by the professionalism and the overall enjoyment of the race. There was no waiting in lines, or any negative attitude from the volunteers or organizers. The actual race was a blast and exceeded my (and my teammates) expectations. I would highly recommend this race!
The best obstacle race in Ontario for sure! The weather was not the best, but after all, it is a mud race. The bands were great, the after party at Twist with DJ Jug E of B101 was amazing. Parking was free and I got a discount on my room at the Village! Already signed up for September 8th, 2012!
Awesome race and terrific venue! Blue mountain is definately the place for a race like that. The organization and obstacles were top notch! It was unfortunate about the weather for the day but we cannot control that. It was a little chilly that day.
