I will continue to do this race as long as I am running. This was my 45th marathon and it was run pretty smoothly considering the last minute course changes as described above. I like the idea of flush toilets on the route but I could have used more porta potties on the course. The finish line was a bit disorganized as I almost ran into a spectator who was running across it! Also - flush toilets are great but without doors they are downright creepy! The shirt was okay as well and the medal was pretty cool! More gawdy designs for next year is my only request. PS - great to see so many maniacs on the course. It was great to meet Jeff Simpson complete his 1037th marathon and it was great meeting Nathalie Jo who ran her 3rd marathon in a week! You guys make me look bad!
Loved the way this marathon has a theme to it - Aliens - something different. The website, registration and expo were all good and the organizers were good at keeping everybody informed.
Unfortunately due to flooding the course was changed into a two loop race which made for a heck of a lot of turns but to be fair to the organizers they are going to get the course certified post race. Hopefully that will happen, especially for us seeking Boston qualification times.
It was very cold after the race so maybe some blankets would have been good.
The entry fee was very economical for this race but still feel I have to say something about the prizing. There was money available to top three if the times were fast enough - fair enough - but to then give nothing at all for 2nd and 3rd seems to me to be a bit cheap. And also giving the same age category prize to each top five in each age category again seems a bit odd. And this prize was a milk bottle! Okay the sponsor was a milk company but seriously who wants a milk bottle?
This aside it was a well organised and the volunteers did a great job.
I also have to thank the first aid people because I ended up using them!
This was my 35th marathon! This is one of my favourite races of the season! The host hotel is great with free shuttles to the start line, late check out and cheap, cheap rates. You can park right at the start line and it features toilets that flush along the course! The crowd support is rather light to non existant and there is a section near the end that could be better marked. The food at the end tends to be a bit on the junk food side but the volunteers are great. The race shirt this year was okay in the 80s Atari era sort of way but I prefer the Cormanesque variety of earlier races. A race well worth the drive for any runner in Southern or Eastern Ontario.
