Marden Half Marathon

In partnership with the local community, (including Running Works, Grand River Running, Running Room, Marden Neighborhood Group), Elora Road Christian School is pleased to support Groves Community Hospital Foundation through this charity fundraiser race.

In teaching elementary students from Elora Road Christian School about “Responsibility, Connectedness, and Giving Back to our Communities”, it was agreed that the Marden Marathon would be a wonderful opportunity to serve in our community and give to a local charity with widespread impact (Groves Hospital Foundation). It is with great enthusiasm that the school and various community groups have partnered together to embrace this opportunity to connect and serve.

Guelph and area has become home to some of the best runners in Canada. We are excited about promoting running and its many benefits at the Marden Marathon. It is about supporting the values of health, wellness, excellence and community. For more information, feel free to contact us!

First 10 km of life!!!! I wasn't ready for the hills, but loved every step! Great food, great people, went back the next year and am signed up for the 1/2 this year!!!

Third time running the Half Marathon here, always a great organization, support and friendly volunteers. After race food some of the best by far, home made wraps and cookies. Even concious of listing possible allergies ie peanuts.
Race course itself is more hilly then most other road courses in this area. However makes for a great early season workout and test.
Value is awesome, especially if you take advantage of the early bird online special.

I did the 10k this year and it's a great race. Well organized, hilly and challenging route. I would definitely run it again. Only complaint I have is that I've heard how amazing the food has been in past years, but too bad the line up was so long...I never got to it. The line wrapped around right in front of the entrance to the Centre so you were constantly moving to get out of someone's way. While there was supposed to be a sign up sheet after the race to have a medal mailed to you, I never saw it. All in all though, it was a great day.

Excellent event. Small town feel, excellent food, organization, very positive vibe, distances for all runners and great charity.

Would I have liked a medal ... yes ... was it still an outstanding value ... very much so. Like the shirts, make the medals optional ie a price.

Great race! The best post race food of all races. Good parking and great indoor facilities (real bathrooms), with an indoor track to warm up on if it is raining. I will be doing the half this year.

This is a great event that supports The Groves Memorial Community Hospital. I have participated in the 5KM race a couple of times and love it. The people are great and it is a fun day for everyone who is running, walking or supporting a participant. If you get a chance to sign up this year, please do it, you will have lots of fun!

The race provides a very supportive race crew with wonderful volunteers and fantastic food following the race. Yes, it is a challenging course with rolling hills throughout, but what better training for a spring marathon!

I've never run a race with more of a 'community' feel to it. It's a great course, and some amazing food at the end!

Ran the 10K last year, well organized and well signed route, no traffic, it was a walk in the park yaked the whole way with a friend... doing the 1/2 in 2014 may have to work a bit harder :)

This is one of my favourite races! The people are great! The course has lots of room so you are not bumping into people. I can't wait to run it again!

Thank-you for your feedback re: Marden Marathon! We will change our description to indicate moderate/steep hills. Age categories and prize depth also expanding next year – hopefully you can benefit from that! I agree it is unacceptable to have winners unannounced when crossing the finish line — Matthew Ort (winner of half) was given extra media coverage and additional prizing to make up for MC error. Our goal is to improve the race each year to ensure every person has a positive experience! Thanks again for your feedback!!!

The volunteers were great!! The food was great!! But don't state a few moderate hills for the half. That statement is false. I was also very disappointed with the age group categories 0-19, 20-39, 40-+, not very motivating for some who train so hard. It was a shame that the winner of the half was not even recognized when he crossed the finish line until someone pointed him out.
