Great race that was well organized and well supported. Many spectators brought out by Canada Day festivities. 2 lap course great for cheering runners.. Kids race for only 5$ is fantastic. Shirts excellent if one registers early enough. Congrats to the race director!
My husband, daughter and son ran in the Limestone mile for the first time this year and loved it! I thought the race was well organized. The watermelon was an excellent choice for a post run snack. The only recommendation would be to pre- draw the prizes and put them on a table for people to pick up. Thank-you to all the volunteers and coordinators! : )
loved this run it showed that even though the race was only a mile supposed to a 5k or 10 k that it could still be hard too.
I'm sorry that you had a negative impression of our event. The comments re fitness levels were likely meant to point out that, even though the distance is a mile, as opposed to 5K, 10K, etc, it is a difficult distance to run well - the comments were intended to highlight the runners who have trained to run a mile. Most of us age group runners who run that race are not great mile runners; it takes a specialized kind of training.
As for the shirts, we didn't advertise that there would be race shirts. This is a tough race to plan for because a lot of entrants don't register until race day. And with almost half the entrants paying only $5.00, and with our other overall costs, providing race shirts is not economically viable.
All the races that we organize, and most races anywhere, mix all women together - in fact most races mix males and females of all ages together.
I'd be happy to follow up if you have further questions.
We were disappointed that there were comments made at the end of the event that did not make us feel welcome at the race. We are NOT runners but jogged the mile and yet someone felt the need to state that 'people with average fitness levels should not do this race thinking that it is ONLY a MILE'...how rude, we were under the impression that it was to support Canada Day and to get outside and have fun...this race mentality did not make us want to do it again next year and I would not recommend it to anyone. No participants shirts and just left a bad taste in our mouths. Also, why would you mix all women together so that you have 15 yr olds racing with 65 yr olds? Overall, we were very disappointed.
The Limestone Mile was a great experience and a positive challenge! A perfect way to pay tribute to Canada as well as fitness! Looking forward to next year!
