This was my first 70.3 event. The swim was very well done and the wave starts helped ease the craziness of the event. The bike is a VERY challenging 94k with lots of hills. Portions of the bike route had roads which did not have the topcoat of asphalt which made for bumpy roads and higher possibility of a flat. The run was also quite hilly. The cop detail made crossing traffic very easy and all the aid/water stations were great. I had a lot of fun at this event and would recommend it to friends.
This is one of my favourite 70.3 races! Beautiful course and a beautiful time of year to be there. Swim is great (even in rain with a bit of chop I haven't seem to mind it); bike is a good challenging hilly course with mostly good to excellent roads (a few rough ones on the way back in) and the run is fun with a variety of conditions ranging from busy highway to park trail through grassy woods. Again, some good hills on the run as well. Deerhurst is a great location for the transition and events. Swim start and exit are a bit away from the transition zone, but that can sometimes be the case (such as in Lake Placid)so you just suck it up and run up that hill! Good spirit from the volunteers (who really do rock!) and the town. Nice pro presence on the course as well. Lisa Bentley is always a great personality to have around! Accommodation can be pricey - especially if you want to stay at Deerhurst - but if you look outside of Huntsville (which will fill up fast) there are some great places. Personally, I really enjoy the folks (tri people themselves) at Colonial Bay Resort - good cabin accommodation and good price.
