I have raced both Ironman and non Ironman 70.3 sanctioned events, and have to say that this is the best race going bar non. Aside from the expected volunteers being amazing the location of each discipline is spectacular! This race has had some hiccups in the past, but has been getting better every year. I would say that with the edition of the new swim start location and time, and all the activities, food trucks, and beer tent at the end, this is the best race going! The finishing belt buckle is suck a great idea and beautiful, and loved the tech finishing T! Will definitely be coming back next year, and spreading the word! Great job 70.3 Calgary!!!

Second time doing IM Calgary and 4th 70.3 race. Had a great time.

Pros:
-Awesome course
-fantastic volunteers
-organization was solid and I didn't have any confusion or hiccups with anything
-quick replies on questions on the facebook group
-lots of pre-race communication
-an all around great day

Cons:
-Host hotel and registration was hard to get to if you weren't staying there. No parking. Downtown calgary is a pain. Reg Up on second floor somewhere. I say pick a better hotel maybe somewhere close to race finish if anything there can hold the numbers needed.

LOVE this race! Have done it every year since it started and will continue to do so. The swim start was much better this year and water temp totally manageable. The bike is absolutely beautiful - best scenery you will find anywhere with enough hills to keep it interesting (although the tail wind on this point to point was brilliant yetserday!) And finishes off with a fantastic run through a natural reserve. Its an out and back that catches 2 wicked hills to sort the men from the boys - the support at the top of each though is unbelievable!
See you again next year!

I have done many 70.3 races and this one seems to need an overhaul. Expo was lamo, price was steep and the run on a paved bike / walking path? Not at all what I expect from the ironman brand, the belt buckle afterwards that doubled as a finishers medal was nifty. Post race atmosphere in the park..less than stellar, and the meagre food aftwards (brown bag) could have been better for the price of admission.

This was my first half-ironman and first 70.3, I thought that for the price of admission ($300) it was a little steep considering the run was double loops on a path open to the public. Otherwise the course was scenic and swim outstanding (glacier fed lake....COLD). Seems like people like me were from all over too which is cool.
