This was one of the most dangerous courses I have ever run. Cars were not obeying cones (on several occasions narrowly missing hitting runners) a lack of race marshals meant no one was even present to tell cars where they should drive. The course is pretty desolate and covers areas under construction, uneven ground and an overpass. A volunteer yelled at me near the end of the race to get running. My race, my pace? Not according to the volunteer who decided to berate me while doing 10's and 1's. Due to so many issues making this race not enjoyable, I will not be back.

What a great race and what a day for this run in February. Honesty could not ask for more/. Very professionally organized, well planned and wonderfully executed. loved this race. This was my third year in a row and I had a blast. Everything, In all departments this race was a great way to start mine only 2nd half marathon for the year, worked great for planning for Chilly and Around the Bay in March. Too bad, Ymca Peterborough is not there in February anymore.
Yes, I would highly recommend this run

Avoid if you're planning to go fast and used to flat ground. I ran this in 2014 and tore my medial meniscus on very uneven ground - frozen mud. Checking to see if they've changed the damn course yet, they haven't. Why do more work than you have to? Check out 5524 Blezard Dr on Google Street View. They can't possibly clear that in winter, and so if there is any snow on the ground or the mud freezes unevenly, you're guaranteed to get dangerously uneven ground. Careful there.

What a blast! Great weather and an awesome course. I did the half. Lots of signage and markers and very helpful Volunteers. I even placed in my age group. Nice medal and prize. Yummy muffins! I will be back next year.

Great race! Well organized, registration was really efficient. The 10K is fairly flat, lots of aid stations and road marshals along the course. Plenty of food afterwards and I even placed third in my age group. I will be back next year.

Thanks for a great race despite some challenging weather conditions. I appreciate that the team from the Grimsby Half put the runners and volunteers safety first and would like to say Thank You to everbody at the aid stations, the road marshals and the police. I enjoyed the post-race food, great pizza and donuts as well as the hot coffee.

I was impressed that they cancelled the half marathon thinking of our safety due to the cold weather. I was pleased with the protein bar box for all the runners. I was happy the race offered my favourite doughnuts honey crueller. I am disappointed that the race director change the company for the race results from Sportstat to Chiptime. I like Sportstat 100 percent better. I email them about it but got no response as usual.

The only reason for 3 bananas is that they did not tell people ahead of time that the half was cancelled. I, as well have run half marathons in much harsher conditions as well. The whole premise of these winter races is to test your mind and body to the fullest. A lot of us are using these races as preliminaries for upcoming runs and I know that I had to run again when I got home. However, it was very kind that the officials offered money back.
The 10k was fast and scenic and the condition of the roads were fantastic! There were so many volunteers and law enforcement helping to keep us safe and that is so appreciated.
I found nothing wrong with keeping a separate awards category for the halfers seeing as we were in a different category anyways. It made it fair keeping the field of competition the same as if we were running the half.
It was great having the warmth of the school, the indoor bathrooms, the gym to wait in and I thought the food was generous. Plenty of coffee! Swag was nice with the entire box of protein bars. And the medals handed out to everyone was a very nice gesture! Thank you!!!!

I enjoyed the 10km race! It was very fast, mostly flat, with some hills near start and finish. With parts of the roads being covered in snow, it was a good challenge to get a excellent time. Overall a great race.

I was VERY disappointed about this race yesterday, and after many races completed under my belt I find myself with good reasons to write this review.
I did this race years ago (3-4) and it was already diminished in stature from what I have heard back in the days when it was a premier race on the winter circuit. I can't believe the organizers would not at least have made an effort to cancel the half and post on facebook and twitter and the website first thing that morning, to warn people ahead of time.
Or, made an effort to do two loops plus a km for the official half marathon if there was a shortage of volunteers as I heard was the rumour. I mean....is that my fault your event cannot attract enough volunteers? There were many, many other races that took place across Canada in these tough winter conditions and they were not cancelled.
There should be a full refund or a free entry provided to another 1/2 marathon organized by this company for this stunt.

It was a cold morning (-20) but no where near the coldest I've seen for many races.
We kept checking the site the night before and that morning to see if the race might be cancelled. Nothing posted there.
After driving 80KM to the race we found a sign on the door that the Half distance was cancelled.
That wasn't a professional way to handle it. But runners need to make the best of a situation so we all just ran 10K.
Then they had 2 sets of results and awards 2 separate 10K races - the runners who entered the 10K and the runners who entered the Half. A very illogical way to present results. It was just one single race.
Food was very stingy.
Snow on the course when it hadn't snowed for days. Run a plow out there.
I finished 2nd overall to win a hat. Really. Why wait around over and hour for a hat. We certainly don't run races for the awards but a hat is just a waste of time. Please just hand out the awards at a table after the race and let the people get home.

The first race of the Subaru Niagara Running Series. There was a Half Marathon, 10k & a 3k and although the numbers were smaller than previous years it was excellent value for money and although we will miss the Late Jerry Friesson (previous race director who died suddenly while running a little over a year ago) this race and how it was organized & ran would be something he would be proud of.
Conditions were reasonably good and although I didn't run as fast as I was hoping for, good times were had by all.
