I ran the half in 2013 and the full in 2012. The courses are the same each year with half the race being an out and back (for both distances). I hate out and backs, while I do understand the reasoning behind them for organizers, it is hard to run past the finish line knowing you still have 15km to go (for the full).

The course is a little boring, with lots of residential streets and long stretches of no spectators.

The food area in 2012 was fantastic, with a full buffet style breakfast. I don't know if this was offered in 2013, but I certainly didn't see it. This year, there was the standard muffins, juice and chips, which is just great, too.

It's an okay race. I'd run it again because the price is alright and they offer a student discount (I think) which is a big help.

I would recommend this race to a friend, but not to anyone doing their first full. The finish line at this race is a little anti-climatic, and your first full should have an exciting finish line, in my opinion.

Great Race, ran the half marathon. If you want a fast race this is a good choice. Fairly straight out & back taking in some nice realty. Good crowd support at key points, sporadic elsewhere.

I think this event needs some improving, in fact compared to most other big city races I have done in Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg and Ottawa) this one can be much better. Hockey is more fun in Edmonton!

I ran the Edmonton Marathon in 2011 and really enjoyed it. The course is very flat, except for one nasty little hill at the 38km mark. The volunteers were enthusiastic and the race was well-organized. I'd happily recommend this to anyone. The race shirt was kind of ugly, but I'm willing to overlook it, given that everything else was so well done.
