This is my second year running this race and once again I am really impressed with the organization and quality of the course. This year was pretty wet and cold so it was nice that they had an indoor facility for us to hang out in. I also raise my hat to all those volunteers that stood in that rain, freezing to make sure we the runners stayed on course and stopping any vehicles from making a wrong turn onto the course. For a smaller race like this I think they do a great job and I look forward to next year!
We live in town so every year we try to support this run bc the funds go to the hospital. But to be honest the rain wasn't the most disappointing aspect of the day..as some one who has ran I'm over 10 charity races in 2015 alone (usually 2 to 3 a month) the dairy capital was a huge let down for many reason. . 1 let's start with kits only the 1st 100 people got shirts and the 1st 400 people got socks... a plus while they finally went to tech t shirts over cotton (most races have done this ages ago) they didn't commit and do it for all runners 100 runners out now 900 is not enough especially since the prices have steadily climbed I'm the past 5 years.. so if u were not in this group of runners u got nothing for a kit..with multiple supliment stores in town no one was willing to donate treats? Often times there are specialty granola bars like the ones zehrs sell In the kits. .or coupons to local vendors pretty lame.. my next issue is with the kid races which my kids have done tons of the 2 km is mainly kids and while standing in freezing pouring rain the Marshall made no attempt to raise the spirits of the kids.. u have a megaphone use it! Hey guys r u excited to be here? Lead a warm up get the kids having fun while the freeze to death I'm the rain.. even the little hoofer didn't have anyone engage them prior to the run... it was very disappointing let's get people excited! On a plus they changed the medal for the 1st time I'm 5 years amd now all the runners incl the hoofer get decent medals so that's awesome and they usually always have one of the best food set ups.. usually it's so hot u risk heat stroke but it would be nice if we have cold weather like this some one spoke to tim hortons about donating hot chocolate or coffee as its common at cooler weather temps. All in all if woodstock wants to keep its local runners and attract outsiders it needs to step it up..yes it is for charity bus so is every other run and there were a bunch of close by runs going in today incl the western fair district chuckle run .if we attend again it will be bc we feel bad for not supporting our hospital it won't be because it is an amazing event it's just ..ok
