If you are looking for a fast, flat course and a well-organized race, this is the one! Great atmosphere, nice spectator support, best after party ever! Registration fee is very reasonable, and if you register early, you get a free tech beanie. Finisher's medal is super cool and you get a finisher's keychain too (mailed after the event)! Expo had a great line-up of speakers. My only little grumble is about the androgynous technical shirt. The cut is unflattering for women and the unisex sizing left me swimming in a small. Tried to exchange but they ran out of extra-smalls. Other than that, I was very happy and got a PB and BQ!
I live in Ottawa and the Buffalo marathon is the same weekend as Ottawa. I did it this year since I heard such good things about it. Let me add to the comments - a free hat mailed to you a week after the race! Free pasta dinner for runners! A pretty course and muscle rub during the run. Frequent water stops and a nice shirt and a medal of a Buffalo! The other reason to run it - you are an hour away from the Jello Museum of America in Leroy NY. What else can I say?
I have done many races across the country and it pains me to say that the one in my own hometown is one of the worst. I planned on running it in 2011 as a full marathon and am glad that I had to drop to the half for injury. Four water stops on the half course were out of water on the hottest day of the year. Several spots on the course were completely devoid of any humans cheering, walking, or otherwise. There was also little support at the finish line when I finally got there. For as many years as this event has been going on, they should have improved it by now. Especially the expo, which if truth be told, is no expo at all. I put this on my skip list for future years. The medal doesn't change at all anyway.
This was my first half marathon. I had such a great time. Thank you Buffalo Marathon and the amazing supporting Buffalonians and volunteers.
The neighborhoods were amazing. The spirit and support that we received from the spectators made it so much fun. The volunteers were abundant and ready with fluids at all stations. A wonderful lady really touched me. When I was bogged down and exhausted, she was there with plastic gloves and fresh, cold orange wedges! Wow! Organized and well put together. Thank you. I would definitely recommend this and will be back. My bucket list includes a full and I hope to do it in Buffalo.
Love the Buffalo Marathon. From the moment I registered I felt very much a part of the event and the community experience. Whoever mans the website (Beth?) is thorough, quick to respond and always very courteous, informed and polite. The event itself was wonderful. While the 1/2 marathon was way more supported than the full, the volunteers were abundant; water, gatorade, and fruit plentiful; and the residents of the neighborhoods in which we ran the second half were friendly and encouraging. I recommend this marathon to first-timers (this was my second marathon this month, third in total), or to those trying for a slot in Boston. You'll love the course and enjoy the sights. Thanks Buffalo
