Not a very good year at all for this race. I understand the reasons behind moving this race to another location but there was no indication of having to walk almost 1 km to the starting line. That was not a very good start right off the bat. Second, there was no announcing that the race was going to start and that people should start walking to the distant start line. It was pretty cold that day so people were trying to stay warm as long as possible. But the worst gripe I have was the absence of medals! They even advertised "Finisher Medals" on their website. We ended up getting these tiny glasses with the sponsor half rubbed off. People run these races JUST FOR the medals! There have not been medals in the past and I have run this knowing that there were no medals, but don't advertise and then give a crappy juice glass. I will give a banana for the course. It's the same as the Boxing Day 10 Miler and I will give a banana for the free beer ticket and pizza. Other than that, pretty expensive entry for a cotton unisex t-shirt and a juice glass. Especially for 5km.
This is my 3rd consecutive year running this race. So, firstly...the Slainte St. Patrick's Day run was actually the Corktown St. Patrick's Day run this year, and it occured on 14 March not the 7th.
Pretty much the same route although with the Corktown being a bit closer to the hill I think they added a loop at the top to get 5k distance. The downhill portion is just over 2 kms I would say roughly. Definitely a fast race.
Canadian on tap was the beer being given out post race (one per runner). Chili was being served, and live music was on the go.
TShirts only, no medals this year. Notably missing was any kind of water stations (mid way or at the finish line - although I am told there may have been one somewhere around the other side of the buiding. Also no "grab bags" if you are looking for something like that.
I really enjoy this race. Fun and Fast. It's not the best race there is....but it never fails to keep me coming back!
There was some confusion on where to get the chip and then we were told you had to get the chip the day of from the PUB. People went out of their way to go to the PUB and then later found out the chips were being handed out at the school anyways. After the race, there was not enough room for us to get into the Corktown Pub. Now, that being said, people were warned about this - the only thing I think the race didn't think of... was people who bought raffle tickets... I couldn't get in and yet I paid money for the raffle tickets :(
Great race, well organized, fun shirt and lots of fun to be had after the race at the Pub! I only wish they blew a horn or something to signal the races start for the people to hear near the back end.
This was my first running race. It was well organized. The street were blocked for us. The party afterward was great!!
This is a fantastic race. Accurately measured and marked (the police didn't get lost leading the pack this year). No t-shirts, no participant medals: old-school, just the way I like it! Great value for money, and great after party in the Slainte Pub. Shawn Brady provided post-race entertainment; please have him come back next year.
Good race. They bused us out and we ran back to the bar. The pre-run went hiccup free this year. The run itself is 3 kms flat, followed by 2 kms downhill to the bar. Very fast. The post-run was great. Free chilli and beer, and a really good band playing rock and celtic. The only knocks against it would have to be that not everyone gets a medal (some were hoping for an extra momento), and the tshirts were cotton (not a big deal except the largest size they had was XL, and if it shrinks at all it will find its way to one of my teens closets).
Awesome, fast and fun my PB 5k!
It was a super fast downhill race. The bar was packed afterwards with lots of free food (including veggie choices for us vegetarians) and beer. The band was really good and most people stayed for hours enjoying the music and good cheer! I'll do the race again in August!!
Great race! Great crowd! Great course! This is a great race whether it's your first time or if you are a competitive runner!!! Slaintes
Not sure why this race is rated so high. Ran it in Nov/11 and was taken in the wrong direction, and course was 5.5km. Also, 2.5+ hours wait to get your award after the race because they want you to spend cash in the bar. Not going back.
Such a great race...dress in green and run down the hill to the pub! Perfect!!
possibly the BEST race i have ever done! It was FUN and FAST! The after party was a blast....FREE Beer and Chili and a great band!
Fast course, great atmosphere in the bar afterwards. The problem is the organization of the race itself.
Runners are taken up the hill via bus to wait in a school gym pre-race. A good concept, if the gym was open! The gym didn't open till around noon, making runners that caught a 10:30 bus stand in the cold.
The distance of the race was 5.53 KM, not 5 KM.
Direction: The course had no real direction. I was near the lead group at the start and the course was being set by a motorcycle policeman. There were no clear signs, directions, etc. To make matters worse, in advance no race route was posted online.
Running blind + an extra half Km points to poor planning.
Even with all of the avoidable errors, this is still a fun & fast race. However, race planners need to get their act together.
I like the race. It's a suprise half at the end. I liked the organization, very well laid out. Good seeing Todd again!!
It was great. I like the extra half a km.
Awesome race. Third year doing it and I Love it.Love the pub and love the downhill part!!!
This race has a lot of potential but just isn't that great. It's poorly organized for many reasons...
- have to take a bus up to the start point at least an hour prior to the race, and then waiting there for the race to start
- the course itself was not laid out clearly or marked well
- the race, 5k, was actually 5.6km
- inaccurate chip times, as chips are only read at the end of the race
- very lacking in direction, signage, and instructions, it wasn't clear that race chips were available
- far too many people for the post race festivities in the bar
- even something as trivial as posting the race results on the outside door, meaning people blocking the door as you try to come in and leave
It sounds like I'm nit picking, but when you compare this race to more professionally organized races, it comes across more as a fun run. It has a ton of potential, and trying to organize it a bit better would make this a stellar event.
Awesome race! I come back every year. I'll see you next year!!
Great fun. Was expecting the warm up area open a little before the race - had to stand in the cold. Great finish area and great entertainment at the bar. Was not expecting the extra km after 5k. Overall lots of fun and I would definitely do it again!
it was fast and free of ice and slush. It was more than five kilometers though as my team reflected.
It was a good race but the hill was a little bit of a surprise. No water stations but it was only a 5k.
Great, fast race- although it would have been faster if it was 550m shorter!but overall, it was fast and fun :)
Great race, nice and fast, but the race was half a mile longer, not too impressed about that. Would race it again though.

Great race!! Very well organized :)
Running down the mountain was super tough but exhilerating.
Always fun! This is my fourth time. I look forward to it every year. The bar is the best part!!
This race was really fun :)
Great race. lots of fun and great pub!
great race - half of it is downhill and beer waiting for you at the end!
I loved that it was all down hill, felt great! Was a bit longer than 5km which threw me off a bit, but was fun and great party afterwards :)
very fun, and beer
nice fun race....big downhill. course was about 500m long though
Awesome run! great ppl great times!
Nothing better than a race with a free beer at the end!! Good Course and well organized.
Well organized, the buses ran smoothly, the course wasn't measured accurately... beautiful course with the hill!!
it is great race, i really enjoyed the fast pace on the downhill nad bear afterwards. Today it was 500m more than expected as police turned us in the wrong direction but I did not mind running extra 500m.
I enjoy this race. It has a later start time which I like, and an insanely fast course. The crowded bar is a bit annoying, but hey you get to meet other runners when you're packed in like that. I think the age category prizes were special pint glasses one year, better then just getting another medal.
Not a bad race since it finishes at a bar.....lol BUT there needs to be a little more, maybe a better race kit or swag, shirt...lots of potential. Very crowded after inside so try to run fast and get to the bar quickly....
One of the best races I have ever run. Awesome after party.
