Great race! Would love to see Age group prizes as I finished 2nd in my age group and was disappointed to hear there weren't any at the finish line from a volunteer.
Other than that, very well run race.
This was my first race, I completed the half marathon and I thought it was great! The hills were a little tough at the start then the last one in the last half but it was great to have such a beautiful view of the water which in turn put off a breeze to cool us down!! We will see you next year!thank you to all who made it possible!
It was my first time running at Barrie Half Marathon. Nice course and weather. It was great and the Nation anthem was sang prior to the start of the race. I truly feel that I am Canadian.
I love the Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon! This is my 3rd year in a row participating and my first year doing the half (last 2 years I did the 10k). The whole event is well organized with strong local involvement, lots of great charities and friendly volunteers! The shirts are nice (though a little on the big side) and the medals are HUGE and gorgeous! I love that they are also a magnet and bottle opener with a removable ribbon. It makes them very functional! The course was challenging but pretty with a fairly hilly first half and a straight flat gravel second half. The course goes out 6km and back past the start/finish out to about 16km and back. The fun part about this double out and back is spectators get to see you 3 times and you get to see all participants twice! And how awesome is FREE race photos?? A great event that I will participate in year after year!
Won't find a prettier place to run! Very well run and attended, great sponsors and partners!
I loved this course! It was pretty flat except one hill! The waterfront view was amazing and made the experience so much more enjoyable. The medal is amazing and so was the racing shirt. My only complaint was I was one of the last runners in the half marathon coming in at 2:34:03 and I was not happy about the food option being pizza. After a run I would like a bagel or a banana pizza is way too hard on my stomach after a run. With that being said it was a great race amazingly organized and I will run it again next year!
Overall a great race. Route had some gradual hills along a beautiful lakeside trail. Started right on time and was well organized. Only complaint was that although water/Gatorade was plentiful, the stations were disorganized and runners had to scream what they wanted to get the desired drink. I even had one volunteer try to refuse me 2 cups of water when I tried to take them. Other than this I was happy. The medals are impressive! This is a great race and I will be back again for sure!
This was my first 10K run and I'm so happy it was a great experience. I feel it was well organized and there were lots of volunteers along the way to point in the right direction. They also cheered you on and that was great as at some point we all need it.
This was my first year doing the Barrie half and my third half marathon this year.
Here's what was done really well:
-early start time: helps with getting the race over with before the heat of the day sets in
-plenty of water stations which were well staffed
-I enjoyed running through the crowd at about the 12k marker as the 5 and 10k racers were finishing: it helped pump me up
Some things they could improve on:
-T-shirts: all of the women's t-shirts were shrunk to kiddie sizes. This is not the fault of the organizers and they did promise to mail out new ones but it was still disappointing.
-More volunteers along the route. There was more than one turn where the runners had no idea where we were supposed to turn. The volunteers that were there were really great though!
- The finish line needs improvement next year! Most races provide a chute for runners to keep them separate and allowing them a chance to walk around and cool down. I ran straight into a crowd of people and didn't have much space to keep walking....and I can't emphasize enough: if you're organizing a race in the summer, you simply MUST have ample water being handed out at the finish line! There were really long lines for water and in the end I had to skip the line and dunk my cup in the top of the cooler...I felt like I was about to pass out.
I will likely do this again as it was a chance to run with my whole family who lives in Barrie - they did the 5 and 10k and really enjoyed both races!
Very well organized race with enthusiastic volunteers. Beautiful views of the bay. There are a few moderate hills in the first part of the half marathon when the route goes through a residential area, then fairly flat after that. The medal and T-shirt were very nice. Pizza lunch for all finishers!
A fairly flat course except for a 3 small hills. It's got a great vibe and a wonderful view of the lake.
Excellent race!! Well-organized thanks to race director.
I've run the 10K for the past 2 years, and the 5K once before that, and I think it is an overall good race.
The distance is accurate, they have signs every km, and there aren't too many people (350 in the 10K this year) so it's not too crowded.
The route for all three races is nice and displays Barrie's beautiful waterfront, and there's always pretty views to look at.
There are lots of volunteers, but I think they should put less at the water stations and more at crucial turning points. There are WAY too many volunteers at the water stations when there are usually only like 2-5 runners passing by at once. At some places, I wasn't sure where to go because there were multiple paths and runners were going everywhere, but there were no volunteers in sight. I usually jut followed the people in front of me, but none of us were sure where we were going...
Overall, a fun race with nice medals and enthusiatic, cheerful volunteers. :)
Great event, even in the rain! Volunteers were awesome, and fun atmosphere at the start/finish!
impress me not
I could handle the rain. I did not care for the crowded wet boardwalk and slippery footing. I did not care for the DEEP water on the roads (which can make me wonder how deep the water was on the route they closed/rerouted.) I did not care for the volunteers at the end that were too busy talking to direct me on the right turn/path to finish. (but did not hesitate to correct me AFTER I was running in the wrong area because they were standing where I was supposed to run). I did not care for the after race refreshments of Pizza slices (REALLY!). I did not care for the out and back narrowness in the mud that was greasy and slick.
It has potential to be very pretty, lots of photographers (and while the quality of pictures downloaded was poor there were many photos.) There were plenty of signs and volunteers to direct you early and mid route.
However I would be hard pressed to agree to pay the money to do it again.
I've done this race three times so fat and looking forward to another one this year. Great volunteers. Great public and very enjoyable route along the waterfront.
Excellent race , very organized and great volunteers, cant wait until next year !!
Extremely well organized from start to finish, !! Will do it again, one of my favorites !!
Great event inspite of weather challenge.
This was the 3rd time I ran the half marathon and although I had my worst time this year, I enjoyed myself. It's a great race and it's run really well.
This is my second time doing the Barrie Half Marathon, very well put together event.
Friendly, well organized and the Barrie waterfront is beautiful!
neither rain, or rain, nor more rain could keep us from this race. Despite the horrid weather, it was a well organized day, full of cheerful volunteers, clear signage and a challenging course. The medal is awesome too. The field wasn't too large, so it was a very fast group, but I think that's 'cause only the diehards came out in the torrential downpour.
Great 5 km race with a challenging finish
