Just finished the Barrie Canada Day 10k. My first time running this race. I wanted to get a quick race in and see if my LT training would pay off. So yes I worked hard on the course. Overall a small friendly race with easy parking and race day kit pick up on site. Weather was the best in years. They changed the course so the back 5k was a gravel road with no site of the water at any time. The course also measured 400 m too long. Finally they changed the awards to 1 winner per masters and 1 per under 40 yrs per gender so they perhaps got a little cheap with this. Also the final times were not posted with ages so you had no idea if you should stay for the awards or not and they were 2 hours after the race start. So I am not sure who stayed ........so if you are out for a friendly race this one is fine...if you are looking to do something more you have to take the race for what it is.

I did this race a few times many years ago, on the way to a cottage naturally! It was a small, fun, local event and although we went out/back on the public pathway it wasn't too crowded. The 10km is a full two loops so that kinda sucked (boring) and they ran out of water too that year which was not good considering how hot is was. I believe there were some decent age group prizes which I collected along with a girlfriend at the time. There were NO other races locally so this event got bigger but I believe now a few other races locally have hit the 1000 person mark so the Barrie Canada Day Race needs to step it up!
