Grimsby Half Marathon, 10K & 3K

Mar/10/2020

This was one of the most dangerous courses I have ever run. Cars were not obeying cones (on several occasions narrowly missing hitting runners) a lack of race marshals meant no one was even present to tell cars where they should drive. The course is pretty desolate and covers areas under construction, uneven ground and an overpass. A volunteer yelled at me near the end of the race to get running. My race, my pace? Not according to the volunteer who decided to berate me while doing 10's and 1's. Due to so many issues making this race not enjoyable, I will not be back.

Spring Into Action 2019

Last year was my first year running in this event. It was a great experience and very well organized. From the sunrise yoga and dancing to warm us up to Mayor Tory officially starting the day. It’s a great course through Sunnybrook Park, it was well marked and there was a great mix of professional runners and families out walking. At the finish line we were met with some great food and entertainment. Great vides throughout, all to raise awareness and funds for youth mental health. I will be back in Spring 2020 for sure!

2019 was my first year running Spring into Action through the beautiful Sunnybrook Park. You could choose to walk or run 2 or 5k, the event is a great mix of serious runners and families walking together. It’s a great community event, professionally run and so much fun! From the sunrise yoga and zumba-like dancing to warm up, to Mayor Tory officially kicking off the day, to the run itself, which was full of energy and great vibes. At the finish line there was food and entertainment to round out a great experience. And all for a great cause, raising awareness and funds for youth mental health. I’ll be back in 2020 for sure!

Heritage Trail Fun Run and Dog Walk

Feb/27/2020

This will be the first run on June 6, 2020. The committee is working hard to make this 5K a lot of fun and its right downtown in beautiful Niagara on the Lake. Lots of sponsors and lots of prizes. Entries are limited. It is a fundraiser for a great cause- the new Heritage Trail. This trail is an old rail line that a group of volunteers are restoring to a multi-use trail.

What a great race and what a day for this run in February. Honesty could not ask for more/. Very professionally organized, well planned and wonderfully executed. loved this race. This was my third year in a row and I had a blast. Everything, In all departments this race was a great way to start mine only 2nd half marathon for the year, worked great for planning for Chilly and Around the Bay in March. Too bad, Ymca Peterborough is not there in February anymore. Yes, I would highly recommend this run

I finally checked this cool race off my bucket list and it did not disappoint. My friend agreed to go with me which I am really glad about because I did find the course tricky and challenging to navigate and it was fun to work this out with her. We had a map but its dark in some places, such a cool sightline with the city in the background. We chickened out of the pre race fitness challenges but that was such a fun and unique way to get into the spirit of the evening, the lineups went fast for registration and washrooms and when we started the fireworks scared us as we did not expect them so close. The tshirt was really well designed and the simple finish medal more than enough (I hate those huge, elaborate ones). Most importantly for my friend and I we really wanted to improve our fitness and we both actually started regular workouts before the 31st and we feel that 2020 will be bright for our future running and racing because we started this way.

Agree with the precious post. Deferral fee when organizers cancelled the event (whatever the reason) is completely ludicrous. Shame on all of those involved. Will not be back for 2020

Awesome idea - a great way to kick off the new year! The fireworks at the start were a nice touch and boosted everyone's energy. The staff and volunteers were all very welcoming. The course however was really confusing and the wayfinding was lacking. A lot of the course was backtracking and running where you already were, which got confusing when runners ahead or behind you were running alongside you in opposite directions. At one point several runners and I had to stop and ask each other where to go next and actually pull out a map. No volunteers there to help. Would definitely recommend finding alternate routes for future years that don't involve backtracking through parking lots. They also promised champagne at the finish line, which I did not receive :( Overall though, a positive way to start the new year and I would consider running again next year.

Avoid if you're planning to go fast and used to flat ground. I ran this in 2014 and tore my medial meniscus on very uneven ground - frozen mud. Checking to see if they've changed the damn course yet, they haven't. Why do more work than you have to? Check out 5524 Blezard Dr on Google Street View. They can't possibly clear that in winter, and so if there is any snow on the ground or the mud freezes unevenly, you're guaranteed to get dangerously uneven ground. Careful there.

Any race that has ice cream at the end is fine by me! I thought that it was well organized. The Half was mostly on trails and shaded by trees I appreciated the frequent water stops.

This organization is frustrating to deal with. Ran this race in 2017, when it took place on cherry st due to floods. Fast forward two years, Toronto Islands race course flooded again! And not recent flooding, but throughout the spring. Enough time to set up an alternate race course? You’d think. Instead, Divas organization changed the date to Sept. 22. THEY changed the date, and if you can’t run it (as I can’t since I’ve booked another run) you can defer if....IF you are willing to pay a $25 deferral fee. Understandable if it’s YOUR choice to switch years for any reason, but when they changed the date? Deferral fee should be waived, especially if you’ve shown proof of another race registration. Policy needs to be changed especially for a race that is still new, and seeking to establish itselfPoor customer service! I will not be running this race again as I do believe they value their racers/client base.

Not happy .Race date moved , i have already booked a race for that day. which diva has rescheduled. The only thing you can do is defer for next year . The problem !!! they want me to pay extra 25.00 for deferral fee for next year . WTF . I understand things happen and people get injured and the race needs a deferral fee to prevent abuse and that is what the fee is for . But they changed the date. The fee should be waived. Will not run this race every again , until polices are changed.

The Race was awesome for myself...a different type of race.... BIG complaint was pack pickup on the day of....Everyone was great however, very slow and disorganized....not enough people too small space...trading sizes of shirts etc.....took too long.....The line up was crazy for beer and chili and then to try to eat standing up holding everything while people trying to get around you was something else....did not like this aspect....It is not a race to go out for time...as both of my mapping gear registered more then 5km...but it was a great time for all that was in my group. Everyone was friendly and nice

Super disappointed!!! We could not find the race kit pick up location and volunteers lead us to 3 different places because they didn't know either. This years race pickup was extremely slow also - so my partner and I started the race 5 minutes late. Traffic was not routed properly on the race course. And the 5 minutes late start was not taken off our time, where as last year the chip time started when you crossed the starting line not the start time of the race. All in all not as good as last year. It is for a good cause so I'll be running again next year, but if things have not improved I'll be donating my money in another way....

Achilles St. Patrick’s Day

I have run hundreds of races, big and small, and this was the worst packet pickup I have ever encountered. Bibs were missing, the line was huge and it was an absolute mess. The race was a mass start and people did not stay to the right or pay attention to the fact they should not cluster in groups. Many people cut the course. Volunteers at intersections did not let people run through- runners were stopped and one elite runner and their escort were narrowly missed by cars because of the person at the intersection not paying attention. Ingredients were not posted for the chili and none of the volunteers know whatbwas in it, so due to a food allergy I was unable to eat anything. At least there was beer... I won't be back to run again.

Could use some better signage although they only found that they were getting locomotive hall 2 days before the race. Managed the flow of people fairly well, although the entrance/exit for the food & beer went through the same doors so it was a bit tight at times. Good course, lots of Marshalls & police presence. Packet pickup a couple of days before went smoothly. Chili & beer were great as always but could use some more food at the finish line (bagels, bananas, etc.)

I enjoyed the race, although my finish time was not to my expectation, as I am still suffering of Plantar Facities injury and was running terribly slow, but I loved the route, the Chilly, the Beer. Both the Volunteers and the Event Organizer was superb. Also, the Bag Check-in ladies were superb and very helpful. The only thing missing from the race some power bars, Bananas, etc. I am looking forward to participating at next year's Race

This event was very poorly organized. From the moment I arrived, none of the volunteers at the registration tables seemed to know what was going on. The actual race start was so sudden and unofficial I thought for a moment the announcer was joking. The signage on the course was poor in certain places - a group of us ended up running part way down the wrong road because there was no sign and no volunteer present to direct us. Afterwards, I waited around for over an hour only to hear someone on a microphone rush through the results saying only first names only to then find out some of the initial results were wrong so I would have to wait another hour or more to collect my prize for top 3 overall: a sticker. It's a shame how disorganized this event was because the location was very nice. I would never register for this event again and would not recommend it to anyone. There are many other well-organized, fun, and rewarding races in Southwestern Ontario - do not waste your time on this one.

MEC LONDON RACE FIVE

My first MEC run. I enjoyed it for sure. Well organized and good instructions. I agree with the person that mentioned that the faster people should be encouraged to go to the front to avoid the weaving in and around the slower runners. Loved the food and snacks at the end. Only one thing I’d would like to add is that for someone that is new to running encouragement is great, more people doing that would have been a bonus!! Thanks for putting on the run, I will definitely do more next year!!

I LOVE MEC races. They are well organized, full of friendly faces, and you get to race without all the bells and whistles. The price is on point and makes races so much more accessible for so many people. Thanks for a great race! My only suggestion is to have kleenex at the water stations too ;)

You can’t beat the quality of these races for the price. Great routes, awesome staff on course, and pretty decent food spread afterwards all for $15! Whether you’re a new runner or a seasoned athlete needing a training race there is something for everyone. Can’t wait until next race series. Kudos MEC London!

MEC LONDON RACE FIVE

May I say, everything you do with regards to the races you put on, is exceptional but I do wish to make one (1) small suggestion. In the races I have run, there is recognition for the top three (3) male and female finishers only, regardless of age. I try to do my very best, however I am a 61 year old male and getting in the top three is next to impossible. The top three are almost always significantly young than me. Would or could you consider recognition for say two (2) age groups, one up to 39 and one 40+ or some other split that represents the runners participating in the race? I appreciate your time on this and all that MEC does for our running community. Jeff
