Run Blue Mountains

Nov/05/2018

This event was very poorly organized. From the moment I arrived, none of the volunteers at the registration tables seemed to know what was going on. The actual race start was so sudden and unofficial I thought for a moment the announcer was joking. The signage on the course was poor in certain places - a group of us ended up running part way down the wrong road because there was no sign and no volunteer present to direct us. Afterwards, I waited around for over an hour only to hear someone on a microphone rush through the results saying only first names only to then find out some of the initial results were wrong so I would have to wait another hour or more to collect my prize for top 3 overall: a sticker. It's a shame how disorganized this event was because the location was very nice. I would never register for this event again and would not recommend it to anyone. There are many other well-organized, fun, and rewarding races in Southwestern Ontario - do not waste your time on this one.

MEC LONDON RACE FIVE

My first MEC run. I enjoyed it for sure. Well organized and good instructions. I agree with the person that mentioned that the faster people should be encouraged to go to the front to avoid the weaving in and around the slower runners. Loved the food and snacks at the end. Only one thing I’d would like to add is that for someone that is new to running encouragement is great, more people doing that would have been a bonus!! Thanks for putting on the run, I will definitely do more next year!!

I LOVE MEC races. They are well organized, full of friendly faces, and you get to race without all the bells and whistles. The price is on point and makes races so much more accessible for so many people. Thanks for a great race! My only suggestion is to have kleenex at the water stations too ;)

You can’t beat the quality of these races for the price. Great routes, awesome staff on course, and pretty decent food spread afterwards all for $15! Whether you’re a new runner or a seasoned athlete needing a training race there is something for everyone. Can’t wait until next race series. Kudos MEC London!

May I say, everything you do with regards to the races you put on, is exceptional but I do wish to make one (1) small suggestion. In the races I have run, there is recognition for the top three (3) male and female finishers only, regardless of age. I try to do my very best, however I am a 61 year old male and getting in the top three is next to impossible. The top three are almost always significantly young than me. Would or could you consider recognition for say two (2) age groups, one up to 39 and one 40+ or some other split that represents the runners participating in the race? I appreciate your time on this and all that MEC does for our running community. Jeff

Fun event. Plenty of course marshals to keep everything running smoothly. Timed run with finisher medal. Typical post race food and gathering. 1 small hill at 3.5 kms. Flat, otherwise. I really liked the fact that not only was every km marked, but the last 500m and 200m were marked for those who want to time sprints. I would give a 5 except for the fact that pre-race pick up was 45 minutes away in a different city. I run locally because I don't want to drive out of my way. This was just odd.

This was my sixth straight MEC race. I come back for each race because I know I will find a well marked course, plenty of aid stations, food for before and after the race, lots of helpful volunteers, massage tables, a race announcer (he always mispronounces my name but hey it’s a hard one) who calls your name out as you cross the line, lots of toilets and an accurate time. It’s also absolutely focussed on running. Charity and fun runs are great but sometimes you just want to pay a reasonable fee and race! MEC does itself a service by running these races and running them so well.

Ran the 6K Trail! Great scenery and variety of terrain. I would have loved distance markers at parts on the race as I came into the finish not realizing we were almost done and I had more juice in me to have gone faster. I will definetely run the series again! Thanks for providing a well organized race series that are affordable. I don't need more medals collecting dust.

First time racing and loved every second of it. Amazing group of people all around, runners, organizers, volunteers, announcers etc. The registration process was smooth as well and the price is unbeatable. Excited for race 5!

The race was great, well organized and on time. I loved the free picture and massage afterwards. All I can say is, maybe make the registration desk a bit more clearly marked.

Slightly confusing venue for runners coming in/ out of start/ finish line area. Marshalls did great at other points on the route but around the turnaround point was quite confusing on where to go to finish line or loop back for next lap. Also congested due to spectators or next round of runners going out of the gate. Otherwise not bad very scenic route. Car traffic was a bit confusing while running as well. Always great value to run this series thank you to all the volunteers.

Popeyes® 13th Annual Durham 1/4 Marathon Presented by Progressive®

Jul/23/2018

This was my first time running the Durham 1/4 Marathon...I ran the 10.549km route...Was nice to be back in town as I grew up in Oshawa and had not been back in years so it was euphoric to run back in time and see some sights I hadn't seen in a while...My company Run For Fun Cruise Tours also sponsored a booth at the finish line and the runners we encountered were very nice and it was a great day all around. * GREAT organization of the event, Amanda, Alex, and the rest of the crew did a phenomenal job in making sure the event was carried off with precision * Nice to have the shuttles back and forth from the start of both the 1/8th and the 1/4 marathon routes and the finish line...Good loop to take...If you wanted to leave your car at the finish and just take the shuttle down to the start and eliminate a lot of the headaches of parking downtown, there is ample room for cars at the finish * beautiful route for the 1/4 marathon, starts from downtown City Hall then dips down into a pathway where you follow along the Oshawa Creek all the way down to the lake, then a beautiful run along the lake and the marshes before a fairly good size hill and the finishing chute * lot of good post race food and vendors, misting tent, massages, etc...Very well done * good medal supporting a great cause with #runforothers and #dqm2018 supporting homeless youth * good mc at the end, although he missed me coming in, no biggie, only one other person with me but I had my bib on my leg * this is a really nice event to run and the people running it are great * shirts were nice and soft and we funny enough we both use the same company in Zorrell * recommendation-just put your vendor tents closer together next time so people are not so spread out...We had a great spot across from the food tent however there was a lot of space in between vendors-try and create a pathway so people are walking through and are able to see everyone that made the commitment to be there * If you had the shuttles for longer, more people would stay instead of thinking they had to skidaddle to get back downtown to get their car * We had a good time and will be back in 2019

I rode the 100km route and while we had great riding conditions and a fantastic route as per usual (and volunteers to boot!), i was very disappointed with the level of preparation in regards to rest stops and the snacks provided. Last year the pit stops had a wider variety of options (bananas, nuun tablets, cliff bars, granola bars, water). This year we were lucky to still have granola bars left over when reaching a stop, but lots of uncut bagels. Feeling this way during the 100km ride i can't imagine how this impacted the riders doing the 165km journey. Secondly the snacks that were available were not even prepared! Riders had to cut their own bagels and spread their own peanut butter/jam. This sounds lazy but I mean c'mon! Some of us are out there trying to complete the ride as fast as we can and we have paid you, the event organizers to provide a service. I am extremely disappointed with the level of preparation taken this year in regards to snack/water preparation. MEC needs to address this issue for future events. Next year I may not participate due to these issues alone. Finally, i believe last year there was a breakfast station set-up a well at Toboggan, which was absent this year? Perhaps i just couldn't see one. Thumbs down for this as well.

This was my first MEC ride. The 60 km ride was well marked so there was no need for a gps. Sate route, great scenery, very friendly and supportive volunteers. I will definitely ride again next year.

Did the 160 km route, stayed with the front group for most of the ride.. Overall, it was a good day. The route was good (except for a couple of gravel sections) and well marked. It would have been nice to know which colour was for which route but we figured out that we were the pink route after the first time the route diverged.. Perhaps it was mentioned somewhere but no one in my peloton that I asked actually knew the colour scheme. The early rest stations were reasonably well-stocked but the later ones were not. Definitely need more supplies for future events. I didn't get any gels or Nuun tabs, good thing I brought my own. I did appreciate the bananas. The rest station staff were very nice and helpful. May I suggest a salty snack, like potato chips, at the later rest stops? At that point, we need some extra salt and the high glycemic index potato chips would help to forestall the depletion of our glycogen stores. As for the post-ride event, I can't comment as I didn't stick around. I don't consume alcohol after an event like this because it just further dehydrates you. I'm also not keen on the choice of start/finish venue because of its downtown location. My concerns are with parking, traffic, safety, etc. I'm an experienced rider and have no issues with riding in traffic but not everyone has that level of comfort. Overall, though, an enjoyable day and my thanks to the event organizers.

We have always enjoyed the ride in the past, however, this year was a bit of a disappointment. We brought 2 additional riders with us this time telling them there was all kinds of bagels and bananas at the start of the race, that they could change inside the Toboggan Brewery washrooms, that there would be lots of stops along the way with plenty of food and drink. What happened? No food at the beginning of the race? having to change in a Portajohn? Having only 2 portajohns for a couple hundred people? And limited food along the way? I would gladly pay more for the ride to have what you used to provide. I’m sorry to say if next year doesn’t provide more, this could be a hard sell to riders in years to come.

I was very impressed with how well organized your event was, and I will definitely attend other MEC cycling events in the future. The race was very well-marked (I think it was literally impossible to get lost, unless one would do so on purpose), there were plenty of food at the rest stations, and a lot of staff and volunteers throughout the event to answer any question we might have. Keep up the good work!

I love MEC rides and the London Century was no exception. They are well organized events run by caring, enthusiastic people. My daughter and I did the 100km. I got carried away chasing a group in the first 25km and struggled over the last 50km. Mostly flat but the little hills made me feel my age. Looking forward to the next one.

3rd or 4th year running in this. Not as many runners as previous years, but still a fun run in a great setting with breakfast afterwards.
