This was my sixth straight MEC race. I come back for each race because I know I will find a well marked course, plenty of aid stations, food for before and after the race, lots of helpful volunteers, massage tables, a race announcer (he always mispronounces my name but hey it’s a hard one) who calls your name out as you cross the line, lots of toilets and an accurate time. It’s also absolutely focussed on running. Charity and fun runs are great but sometimes you just want to pay a reasonable fee and race!
MEC does itself a service by running these races and running them so well.
Ran the 6K Trail! Great scenery and variety of terrain. I would have loved distance markers at parts on the race as I came into the finish not realizing we were almost done and I had more juice in me to have gone faster.
I will definetely run the series again! Thanks for providing a well organized race series that are affordable. I don't need more medals collecting dust.
First time racing and loved every second of it. Amazing group of people all around, runners, organizers, volunteers, announcers etc. The registration process was smooth as well and the price is unbeatable. Excited for race 5!
The race was great, well organized and on time. I loved the free picture and massage afterwards. All I can say is, maybe make the registration desk a bit more clearly marked.
Slightly confusing venue for runners coming in/ out of start/ finish line area. Marshalls did great at other points on the route but around the turnaround point was quite confusing on where to go to finish line or loop back for next lap. Also congested due to spectators or next round of runners going out of the gate. Otherwise not bad very scenic route. Car traffic was a bit confusing while running as well.
Always great value to run this series thank you to all the volunteers.
The race was generally fine, but running the 5k through the campground, in some cases on narrow roads with car traffic, felt a little unsafe. (Possibly this was due to a last-minute route change when a road in the park was closed.) The lightning delay was frustrating but not the organizers' fault of course -- I appreciated the effort to keep everyone safe.
I ran the 6km trail race. It is very affordable & extremely well organized. Thank you to all the volunteers!!
I ran the 10K road race. This was my second race, as last year I did the 5K road race in Gibbons Park.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like running the route twice, but it turned out fine. I got to look forward to seeing some of the cheering marshalls again, and it seemed like the second loop went by a little quicker that way. I really appreciated the friendly and encouraging staff.
The race was well organized. I appreciated the storm delay for our safety. I like the timing chips, being able to compare the two loops of the course, and the refreshments afterwards.
It did feel a bit strange having people walking on the course as they were leaving, while there were still runners coming in from the longer races.
Thanks for a great job!
Ran the 15 k. Enjoyed the race despite the weather delay. Registration was easy and bib pick-up quick. Workers and volunteers were friendly and enthusiastic. Value is great for what you get. Who really needs another t-shirt anyway? Food at the end was accessible and plentiful. The route my have been a little short (the route map link in the email said 4.94km. This could have easily fixed by moving the hairpin turn 30m. It's ok made my time look better. One non-race suggestion. Put a longer time limit on the discount offered or let it be used online. Some runners do not live in London and don't want to visit a store immediately after a race, not having showered or cleaned up. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and I will definitely consider another.
This was my first MEC race . I nervously signed up for the 6 k trail and was so glad I did. It was challenging, having never done a trail run before, but so much fun. The course was well marked. It was very narrow at times causing some bottle necking which was a little frustrating but the variety of terrain and scenery was fantastic. Looking forward to more MEC runs and specifically more trail runs.
My only suggestion would be to have more people Manning the water stations. I wasn't able to get water at either of the two water stations unless I planned on stopping.
This was my second MEC race, I did the 12k trail and I found it very organized. With some lightning spotted, for our safety, organizers delayed the race by an hour. We had a staggered start, the race was well marked, and volunteers held water for us and lead us in the right direction (road or trail). It was two 6km loops, and I was fine with that, as I knew what to expect. The trail had various surfaces, from grass, rocks, mud and pine needles. Beautiful view and a great park to run in. Love that it's not too costly, and refreshments were provided. Thank you MEC!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five stars!!! This race is awesome. Great price, great venue, well organized and fantastic volunteers. Even with inclement weather, managed to pull it off and make it a great success. I run a lot of races in a lot of different towns and this is a great event and look forward to it every year.
15k, good race, really affordable for a chip timed race. Runners are pretty friendly, really nice atmosphere. I don't know why this series isn't more popular.
Lots of volunteers, aid stations are well manned and run.
Post race snacks, bananas and bagels & Cliff bars.
I'd like to see oranges, or another fruit.
Also the coffee needs some help, get some cream.
Great race! I did the trail half marathon and was quite happy with the support and organization overall. The course was very well marked and the extra bits to make it half marathon distance made it a nice change of pace from doing just the main lake trail. Suggestions for improvement: Try to have water stations where runners will see them coming. Can be difficult in trail conditions, but there were a couple that could have been setup better. The water station on Rebecca Rd at Thorndale Rd had lots of room to be visible to approaching runners except there was a car parked on the runner side of the station, obscuring it from view until the last moment. The water station in the parking lot behind the golf course was a surprise so I was past it before it registered in my brain. It is helpful to see it coming so there is time to decide if anything is needed and what before we get there. During these kinds of physical exertion, the brain needs a little more time to do it's thing! :) Other than this small tweak, the race was awesome!
First MEC Race
It was a great venue despite getting lost on my way there
3 loops of 5k was perfect for my prep race
i would suggest making a cone lane for running through the campground as one not so nice man late to eat his bacon just about hit me as he felt I was not moving fast enough
Once again a fantastic race from the great people at MEC. I was really impressed with the route this time (6k trail). I loved the variety in terrain and thought it was more of a true trail race than race 2 in April. The route was also very well marked (did not go off course this time!) and the volunteers very friendly. I also always judge a race by the food offered afterwards and MEC never disappoints. Great job everyone!
i ran the half-marathon.
this was my first MEC race and it was awesome. the challenging trail and beautiful weather made this the most fun I've ever had during a race.
minor issue: i would've appreciated distance markers along the route. i don't run with any devices and the finish line snuck up on me.
Great course and volunteers. Only complaint... no coffee and or ( hardly any ) food left for half marathoners.
Great race! I left the watch and HRM at home and just ran. One improvement would by km markers at the water stations.
This was my first MEC race and I thought it was a great price, very organized and a very scenic route. I'm planning on running another MEC race in October and I'm also looking forward to signing up next year.
Great day, great race! My only complaint was that the trail wasn't well marked in some of the narrow sections, and a group of us went the wrong way at one point. Bigger flags at sharp corners, please!
Really well marked. Fabulous volunteers.well organized and fun
Amazing loved it !! Plan on doing more..exceptional race, volunteers and experience
Excellent value in this race.
Did not really like all the turns in this course but it was another great event for sure.
BIG thank you to the volunteers - job well done!
Super friendly staff everywhere. Sorry for my grumpiness as I was disappointed with my slowness. Trail running is hard!! Flat parts were great, hill parts were challenging. The trail was pretty thin in certain spots which created bottlenecks and getting hit in the face with branches. Nice run along the water.
Not really a run for beginners (I'm not), everyone was pretty skilled.
Guess I'll have to trainer harder for next year lol.
Yummy food, friendly people, and a great course! Overall A + experience. :)
Great day for MEC 10k. It is two-5k loops. Nice treed area. Low fees and some snacks and massage after. Will try trail run next time!
This was my first MEC race and my first trail race. The course was great, volunteers friendly and the price was amazing. Keep it up! I will do another MEC race for sure.
Awesome course - ran the 12km trail, organization and volunteers were great. Would absolutely do this run again and highly recommend it to friends and other runners!!!
Awesome staff and volunteers...
My first trail and timed race
Coordinators were friendly.
Trail was very well marked.
Great people. Responsive and lovely coordinator. Well organized. Great location and set up. Thank you!
Happy Trail Runner
Great race. Clearly marked trail and where there was a potential to become confused, there was a volunteer pointing us the way!
Great race, well organized with very friendly and helpful staff. Couldn't have asked for any better especially at this price! Even though there was very bad weather early in the day they still had the course set up with very little delay which I know is not easy. I heard comments about the length but everyone had a different distance so not everyone can be right, gps isn't always correct especially with all the tree cover. For the price these races can't be beat!! I'll be back again and again. Thanks MEC!
Great event and super friendly staff/volunteers at the MEC Race 4. However, one criticism is that distance was not accurate. According to a GPS, the post 15 KM distance was in fact 15.89 KM.
I have done many MEC races before and enjoyed them. This was the best location in London they race but was the worst organized race I have seen them do. Still enjoyed myself!
I did the 6 km trail race.
Beautiful course with lots of twist and turns
Lots of close parking
Enjoy the different offerings including the trail races
Small race feel
Map sent out before race was wrong
1st water station was not setup
Not sure how the 12km worked since they did not do the 6km route twice
Delayed start because of weather
Why paint rocks and roots white? I understand this was done by the conservation area
A timed race for $15! Really appreciate that MEC keeps putting these on for the low price. Course is flat and fast, led to a PB for me. Delayed start was a minor frustration.
I run the MEC races every chance I get and I am a big fan. The races are well organized and have a great community feel to them. The value you get for your $15 is outstanding, and it seems like an even bigger hit with the trail races now being offered (that will be my next challenge!).
The last time we ran the Fanshawe course I made some suggestions about marshals on course making sure runners stayed to the right and the potentially dangerous trail race/road race crossing point and they seemed to implement those changes this time around, so thanks for listening organizers :)
Great snacks at the end as well, complete with some awesome Fireroasted coffee! I`ll be back for sure!
Love the fact that MEC does races like these! Creates a great sense of community.
Fantastic entry price. Helpful and enthusiastic volunteers (thanks to every one of them). Generally well organized.
Observations: 1) two hairpin turns per loop slows things a little 2) not sure I'd wait on the weather to set up the course (though I understand the reasoning); it can delay things 3) was the course precisely measured? it seemed a little long, though I know GPS watches can't always be trusted for these things.
Amazing that you ran so many races all at once - please keep on offering the trail races.
Liked laid-back, friendly atmosphere. Despite numerous turns, volunteers did a great job keeping me on course. Absence of medals and shirts no problem. The last thing I need is another medal (I've run more than 200 races) and another t-shirt. Post race munchies did the job.
Awesome staff and volunteers, professionally run, easy registration and kit pick-up. Registration fee is small. It has a big race feel - great field of runners, something for everyone and snacks at end are awesome!! Highly recommend - affordable way to add motivation to your schedule with racing.
