I just returned from the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson Mississippi.
I went to Jackson with our friend Jason Tung (it was actually his idea to go to
Jackson).

I had a very good run that day.
The weather was as perfect as it gets. The race started at 7 A.M. when the
temperature was around 50F (10C) and by the end of the race, it was probably in the high 50's F, so I was perfectly comfortable in a singlet & shorts.

On a blustery Friday afternoon, 28-year-old Andrew Smith is sprinting as hard as he can up Mount Garbage, the grassed-over former landfill site that overlooks Etobicoke's Centennial Park. As he reaches the top, he pauses briefly, before turning to encourage the runners struggling up the hill in his wake - some of Canada's top young distance runners who arrived in Toronto earlier this month to join a quixotic quest for marathon greatness.

One of the major stories at the 2004 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon was the surprise victory of a local runner, a 22-year-old Congolese refugee named Danny Kassap who crossed the line first in a then course record of 2:14:50.

Organizers today announced the rest of the men's field, who will be joining returning champion Daniel Rono of Kenya, in the pursuit of a new Canadian All-comers record at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, September 30th. Last year, Rono ran a new course record of 2:10:15 for the victory, but was an agonizing 20 seconds shy of the fastest time ever run on Canadian soil—the 2:09:55 that East German Waldemar Cierpinski ran 31 years ago at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Scotiabank is again offering a C$20,000 cash bonus for a new All-comers record.
Will John Kelai be the man to break 2:09:55?
