INDIANAPOLIS - Ultrarunning legend, 1952 Olympian, New York Road Runners Founding President and pioneer in the field of course measurement and certification Ted Corbitt died Wednesday of cancer in Houston, Texas. He was 87.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Dr. J. Robert Cade, who invented the sports drink Gatorade and launched a multibillion-dollar industry that the beverage continues to dominate, died Tuesday of kidney failure. He was 80.

New York, USA - Robert Cheruiyot dined on salmon for lunch in an exclusive restaurant in Central Park yesterday then collected his cheque for US$500,000 as the first men’s winner of the World Marathon Majors. What contrast to a few years ago when, abandoned by his parents and living a life of poverty, he could afford only one meagre meal a day.

CANCUN, Mexico - Simon Whitfield of Victoria, BC claimed his third world cup title of the year and the tenth of his career at today's Cancun BG Triathlon World Cup. In a sprint finish, he edged out fellow Canadian Paul Tichelaar of Edmonton, AB who earned his first trip to the world cup podium. Volodymyr Polikarpenko of the Ukraine prevented a full Canadian podium sweep with Victoria's Brent McMahon in fourth place.

When the last of their competitors had fallen away and the course tucked into Central Park, Martin Lel of Kenya and Abderrahim Goumri of Morocco turned the New York City Marathon into Part 2 of a battle they began in the London Marathon last April.
