BOSTON - Kara Goucher was third in the women's race and Ryan Hall third among the men Monday in the 113th running of the Boston Marathon, marking the first time in 24 years that Americans appeared on both podiums at this historic race.

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — Ryan Hall conducted his dress rehearsal for the Boston Marathon last Thursday, 11 days before the 113th running of a race last won by an American male 26 years ago.

BOSTON (AP) -- The No. 1549 Patrick Harten will wear on his chest for the Boston Marathon is no ordinary bib assignment: Race organizers gave it to the New York air traffic controller to honor his role in the dramatic safe landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River.

In one of the fastest marathons in history, Kenya's Duncan Kibet used a late surge to pass countryman James Kwambai at the tape to win the men's race in record fashion at the 29th Fortis Marathon Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Adidas, the athletic footwear company, said it has designed a limited edition shoe to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its partnership with the Boston Athletic Association, the group that organizes the Boston Marathon.

Paris, France - Surprising Kenyan Vincent Kipruto broke the Marathon de Paris record with a 2:05.47 run, winning one of the fastest races of all-time as five other men ran under 2:07. Ethiopians dominated the women’s race, led by Atsede Bayisa in 2:24:42.

After seven days of running across 250 kilometres of Chilean desert, 34-year-old Torontonian Mehmet Danis crossed the finish line last Sunday to claim first place in this year's Atacama Crossing, a gruelling endurance race staged in one of the driest places on Earth.
