Organizers today announced the rest of the men's field, who will be joining returning champion Daniel Rono of Kenya, in the pursuit of a new Canadian All-comers record at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, September 30th. Last year, Rono ran a new course record of 2:10:15 for the victory, but was an agonizing 20 seconds shy of the fastest time ever run on Canadian soil—the 2:09:55 that East German Waldemar Cierpinski ran 31 years ago at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Scotiabank is again offering a C$20,000 cash bonus for a new All-comers record.
Will John Kelai be the man to break 2:09:55?

HAMBURG, Germany - This Sunday Simon Whitfield goes for his first world championship in Hamburg, hoping to add the one glaring absence from his illustrious triathlon career. It could be quite a weekend for the 2000 Olympic champion as this event is one of Triathlon Canada's Olympic qualifiers. A top-5 finish by any Canadian will earn them a spot on the team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Luke Kibet became Kenya's second marathon winner in IAAF World Championship history when he emulated Douglas Wakiihuri 20 years ago to take gold here in 2hr 15min 59sec. The fastest man in the world this year, Hassan Mubarak Shami (QAT), held on for silver while Switzerland's Victor Rothlin decided an exciting tussle for bronze.
