Jordan Rapp claims his first Ironman title while Tereza Macel dominates to take her third

The country's first Ironman competition – the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman Philippines 70.3-mile race – was struck by tragedy after a 52-year-old competitor, Miguel Vazquez of the Team Alamat relay team, died during the swim leg on Sunday at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC).

Ottawa – More than 900 participants are expected this Saturday for the 28th annual National Capital Triathlon staged by Somersault Promotions and hosted at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa. Jarrod Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) from the USA clocked his first win of the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series as he surged away from a strong field during the run to cross the line in 1:44:06, eight seconds ahead of Australia's Brad Kahlefeldt. The home crowd had plenty to support with Steffen Justus coming home as the top German in fourth and Maik Petzold moving to the top of the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Rankings following a sixth place finish. The full race from Hamburg is available to watch on demand at www.triathlon.org/tv.

Wire-to-wire wins at Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid
Tereza Macel literally led today's Ford Ironman Lake Placid from start to finish, while Maik Twelsiek led everything but the swim in the men's race (he was third out of the water) as the two both claimed their second Ironman titles in impressive style at Ford Ironman Lake Placid today.

“Olympic Battle” Pits Winter Versus Summer Olympians
This Sunday marks the third year of the Subaru Vancouver International Triathlon. The event, held at the beautiful Spanish Banks and University of British Columbia Endowment Lands, will host a record 600 professional and amateur athletes from 8 different countries racing either the half ironman distance (2 km swim, 90 km bike and 20 km run) or the shorter sprint event. Some of these athletes may be racing for the first time while others use the race as preparation for Ironman Canada or the legendary Ironman Hawaii. With the pro prize purse being $10,000, and the race being nationally televised on Rogers Sportsnet, the event has attracted a number of top international stars.

The Great Britain triathlon team has clinched eight gold medals at the 2009 Holten ETU Triathlon European Championships in the Netherlands (Saturday 4 July). Double Olympic Gold medalist James Cracknell was making his GB Age Group team debut finishing in the top ten of his age group category.

West Des Moines, USA (June 27, 2009) - Beijing Olympic bronze and silver medalists, Emma Moffatt and Simon Whitfield, respectively, took home triathlon's largest paycheck today at the Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup. Each grabbed $200,000 USD as the winners of two races that unfolded the complete opposite of one another.

North Little Rock, AR (June 20, 2009) - For the first time in 2009 a pair of Americans took the top honors at an XTERRA Cup Championship race as Josiah Middaugh from Vail, Colorado and Shonny Vanlandingham from Durango, Colorado won the men's and women's pro titles on a sweltering hot day at the XTERRA South Central Cup in the Heart of Arkansas.

More than 500 athletes will converge Saturday at Innsbrook to take part in the same race. Most will be relieved to get through the first leg — the swim. Triathletes know that open-water swims are fierce rucks with lots of kicking and slapping.
Though rare, deaths during triathlons usually occur during the swim, rather than the biking or running portions of the race.
A photograph taken in June 2007 shows Kevin Hunt flashing a victory sign just before lowering his goggles and diving into Austin Lake at Innsbrook for his first triathlon. A few minutes later he was dead. Hunt, 28, sank and drowned 50 feet from finishing the 500-yard swim

Cervelo leads the way
As Cervelo's Fletch Newland walked through the transition area at the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, he was impressed by the level of bikes being ridden by the competitors who were getting ready to take on the flat, fast, Clearwater course.
