Posted by: petertherunner on Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 06:15 PM
Toronto Canadian connection to ‘marathon mania’ to be showcased at this year’s race

(TORONTO, August 27, 2008) One hundred years ago, through a twist of historical fate, the official distance of the marathon was set at 42.195 kilometres and the world’s first ‘marathon mania’ was born. Toronto, alongside major cities like London and New York, was at the epicenter of this mania and at its heart was Native Canadian Tom Longboat, a marathoner hailed as one of the greatest distance runners in the world.

Running: Toe injury rules Radcliffe out of London Marathon

Posted by: petertherunner on Friday, March 07, 2008 - 06:03 PM
International For immediate release: Thursday 6th March 2008

Paula Radcliffe has been forced to pull out of this year’s Flora London Marathon with a toe tendon injury, just five months before her bid to win gold at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The world marathon record holder, who was aiming to win her fourth Flora London Marathon title on Sunday 13th April, sustained the injury to her right toe while altitude training at her base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“I am desperately disappointed that I have to pull out of this year’s race,” said Radcliffe, who was Flora London Marathon champion in 2002, 2003 and 2005. “I love running in London and this race would have been the perfect test for me before the Olympic Games.

“But in marathon training there are no short cuts and there is simply not enough time to be in the shape I want to be in to run well in London. Now I must concentrate on being as well prepared as possible for Beijing.”

Toronto I had a very good run that day.

The weather was as perfect as it gets. The race started at 7 A.M. when the
temperature was around 50F (10C) and by the end of the race, it was probably in the high 50's F, so I was perfectly comfortable in a singlet & shorts.
