I guess you have to look pretty serious to run a world-class 10km...

In the Parelloop (Pearl Run) held in the Southern Dutch town of Brunssum, today, Micah Kogo of Kenya ran the third fastest ever 10 kilometres on the road. The East-African clocked a time of 27:07 missing the World record of Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie by a mere five seconds (27:02 - Doha, 11/12/2002). It was the fastest time so far in the world this year.

Kogo was far too strong for his nearest opponent and compatriot Barnabas Kosgei who lost by one minute and 26 seconds. Another Kenyan, Charles Koech finished third in 28:37.

The women’s race was won by Dutch based Kenyan Hilde Kibet. She covered the 10 kms in 32:24. It was her second win in two weeks. On 17 March, Kibet won the City-Pier-City half marathon at The Hague.

Peninah Arusei of Kenya took second place five seconds back. Ethiopian Genet Getaneh was third in 33:28.
