Tim Horton's Peach Bud 5 and 10km road races increase prize money and incentives this year for elite runners....Race Director Jerry Friesen has been working hard in preparation for next month's classic event, the Tim Horton's Peach Bud 5 and 10km road races.
Celebrating 25 years, the races have become a fixture in Grimsby, as runners from all over southern Ontario mark their calenders each year in anticipation of a great race experience on a usually hot summer evening. The race is part of the Niagara Running Series (www.instride.ca) and features bonus points in the 10km for runners who enter more than 3 of the races in the series. New bonus money has been provided by several sponsors, so we should see a real battle among the elites this year, course records should fall! Course records- 5k Men -Anthony Gitau (2004) 14:50 women – Stephanie Smith ( 2003 ) 17:46 10k – Men Gilbert Koech (2001) 29:43 Women Jackline Torrori (2001) 34:40 Tim Hortons 25th annual Peachbud 10k - Tuesday June 28th Elite Prize money and awards: 1st overall - $500 plus a Raliegh montain bike - $500 bonus for a new course record. Records -29:41 for men 34:40 women 2nd - $200 plus a raliegh mountain bike 3rd - $150 plus a raliegh mountain bike 4th - $100 Top master $50 plus a raleigh mountain bike. Other highlights: Past winners of the 10k are invited back to run the celebration of the event. - Beautiful course in Grimsby. - 4 Aid Stations in the 10k located at 2.5k,5k,7k and 8.5k - 2 aid stations in the 5k located 2k and 3.5k - The courses are accurately measured using a Jones wheel counter. - Each Kilometer is marked - Race announcing - Championchip timing by sportstats - Live entertainment at the awards ceremony - 25th Anniversary finishers medals to all finishers of the 10k Entertainment: To add to Peach Bud Anniversary celebration, The Bill Culp Group will perform rockin' songs for all ages to welcome runners back from the 10km race. Consisting of top musicians who have performed all over North America and Europe, Bill will be joined by special guests Dave Rave (Teenage Head, The Shakers), Big Dave Tufford (guitarist for Mary deKeyzer, Sue Medley) and Mark Matthews (The Liquidaires, The Skansters). In addition to songs from Bill's critically acclaimed debut album "Roots'N'Roll" (which will be available for sale at the arena), the group will also perform party-rock classics from Teenage Head and a whole lot more.
