The Tim Hortons Peach Bud 10k has been known to be held on the hottest day of the year. It comes as a surprise then when on race day, this June 30th, an hour before the start time of the 10 kilometer race, a wicked storm passed through bringing down sheets of rain, and the temperature with it.

Here’s another certainty besides death and taxes: No Frenchman will win the Tour de France this year or even come close.
Who says so? Who doesn’t? The latest skeptic is the French sports newspaper L’Équipe, which said last week that “except in special circumstances, which perhaps they have the capacity to exploit, no French riders right now can imagine being high in the overall rankings” for the Tour, which begins Saturday.

When the horn sounds today for the 25,000 runners at the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon, it will be thanks, in part, to more than $800,000 in tax money promised over three years, as well as the efforts of thousands of volunteers. But behind the scenes is big business that's found a way to tap into both capitalism and civic pride.

Peter Omae was nearly finished when he started worrying.
He had only a mile remaining in the men's marathon, one last hill to run, but his legs felt heavy and his head seemed light. His pace slowed, and he looked over his shoulder, fearful that Peter Gilmore was preparing to pass him.

Strasser, Oyler and O’Keeffe abandon
The big news from the race yesterday was the DNF of formerly fourth-placed Christoph Strasser. Touted as a big favourite for Rookie of the Year after making waves in the European ultra scene, the youngest solo competitor in this year’s race had slowed considerably and abandoned due to medical reasons, just before the halfway mark.
Note:
DNF Peter Oyler (Can) 1614.50 miles – TS #27 – 4d 22h 51m (13.58mph)
DNF Tony O’Keeffe (Can) 1576.30 miles – TS #26 – 5d 3h 01m (12.81mph)
